Cold air intake throws check engine light

Although I don’t have one on my 21, I’ve run S&B on a half dozen trucks, and never a problem or CEL

Were they late model turbo Diesels? This problem is pretty prevalent with the later Gen 4 and gen 4.5 Cummins trucks.

Yes, both 4th gen Cummins and 6.4 and 5.7 Hemi’s. That being said, I currently have no plans to run one on my 3500, I like it quiet when towing now.

So got done installing the S&B intake for my weight loss 5th gen. NO MORE “service air filter light”. So I’m making the conclusion that the sinister intake DOES NOT flow air as efficiently as an S&B.

There was an obvious restriction in the system and I’m concluding it was the sinister intake.

So yes, 5in opening with a filter that is twice as large actually helps!

This intake is really good quality. The size of the intake tube and filter is huge. Finally cracked the code as to why I was getting a “service air filter light”. My truck just wasn’t getting enough air for what it was demanding.

I've had both the S&B and the Banks CAI on my 2022 RAM 2500 Diesel, the S&B didn't perform as well as the Banks CAI but the Banks did throw engine Codes (P0402 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Excessive Detected) and the S&B Didn't. I've called Banks and the they are aware that there's a problem with the MAF sensor faulting. They are working a fix and stated that the fix should be available in January 2023. If you have one and it throwing codes call them and you will automatically be sent the mods when available.

Keep in mind the 19+'s will throw an under boost code with almost any aftermarket filter because the flow parameters are a small window. Just use the original Mopar filter without the glue strips.

Banks is still working on the fix, I emailed them this week

My wife thinks I only have 3 guns

Was it the newest version of the s&b? Apparently the original versions had issues then they changed some Designs
I just put an S&B on my 2022 with 600 miles and instant code .... sucks. Going to put my stock intake back on tomorrow, there is no difference in performance or temps to anything other than sound. Waste of money in my opinion.

That's a shame. I've been running an S&B now for over 10,000 miles, zero issues to date

After 30+K miles, I pulled my S&B filter completely off give it a good cleaning and oiling. Generally, I use a small shop vac and get as good of a cleaning as possible. I don’t run in a lot of dust or dirty areas….
Anyway, pulled it off. It was fairly clean for that many miles, did my thorough cleaning let it dry, and then oiled it. Put the filter back on and check engine light came on after about a days worth of driving.
Took it into the dealership, it’s throwing a turbo boost code, which I’m told is affiliated with the cold air intake
Before I took it to the dealership I tinkered with it. Made sure the filter was on good tight. Checked all the connections on the sensors… And still check engine light was on.

Not sure if anyone else has this issue? Or if I should just get a hold of S&B see what they have to say.
My service tech at the dealership said it was pretty common for these particular intakes. He actually said the banks called air intake codes
I just think it’s very odd that over 30,000 miles no codes, I did a cleaning, had run for about a day, and then the CEI showed up.
Should I just go back to the stock intake, or try out the banks?

I'd suggest going back to the stock intake.

As has been said many time on here, the stock air intake and filter can flow more air than the engine can consume without modification.
