thats because the “Payload” numbers are for registration purposes the AXLE GWR is what you load by and that is 12040LBS not the 10k registration (payload) weight

It's got to be more than just registration. Where I live I can register whatever weight I want. I could pay for 14,000lb registration on my 2500 if I wanted.

From the owners manual…. Says nothing about “payload limit” but does go by GAWR

Camper is a unique problem because its tall and loaded on the truck. When towing or riding around empty the coils are amazing. On my last coil Ram I added the cheapest airlift set and that made it even nicer. You can stiffen up the ride all you want if you get the air lifts. They sit where the bumpstop is and can help stabilize loads quite well.

Most implies at least more than half. Very few states have a 10K GVWR cap on a PERSONAL vehicle registration and then require Commercial registration over that. Are there some that have weird modified "commercial" registration requirements and licensing for trucks over 10K? Sure, but not "most" by a long shot.

The operator license has entirely different limits. Many states limit the operator to 26K GVWR on a (R)eguler DL.
