Clearance lights

I had a set of Recon tails. 2 diodes went out within 6 months. Recon offered to sell me a new taillight so I didnt have to buy both...90 day warranty:mad:
I strongly dislike them - but it appears this is the best solution for a guy wanting to add cab lights to a 19+

Really the best option is to not add them unless you can fine some off a ram in the wrecking yard no aftermarkets seem to last like oem

You can buy the factory lights from mopar suppliers, along with the jumper harness, or get them from a junkyard- that’s the easy part. You would still be tasked with punching square holes in order to mount them.

Did you go with the 2019+ fresh install version? I did a little bench comparison for someone between a factory 2019+ light, and a recon 2019+ fresh install style light- https://www.cumminsforum.com/threads/5th-gen-style-cab-lights-from-gorecon.2541172/#post-29430948
I haven’t used recon before, but it seems if you ask 100 different people about them, you’ll get 100 different answers ranging from they’re the highest quality lights in the world to they only last a day. Figured I’d give them a try, and I’ll see how they do.
Following up on this:
I gave the recons a chance. First morning after install-

This is on all five. The unit itself is sealed, so it’s not the gasket from light to roof. I’m guessing it’s the factory seal from lens to housing-

Since this is going on with all 5, I have no reason to believe that 5 replacements will be any better. I will not recommend the recons.

I've had mine installed now for about 3 weeks and did not even thing to look at the light cover to to see if water was in it. Went out and check, I have the amber covers and yes, 4 of the 5 have condensation inside. I know that the light units themselves are sealed extremely well to the body of the truck so, as Jimmy said, this has to be coming from the factory light seal. Since they are already installed, I will leave them be and see what happens but as Jimmy also said, I will not recommend them. Will call RECON in the morning and voice my opinion of the product.

I’m installing mine, where did you tie into the factory harness? Previous models had the wire in the passenger a pillar. I don’t see it on mine.

If you pop the little panel off the side of the glovebox below the a pillar, you’ll see the 16-way in-line connector connector that carries those circuits. If your truck has the basic manual rear view mirror, no rain sense wipers, no adaptive cruise, there might not be a connector plugged into it leading wires up the a-pillar, but the male connector half that is there will have the wires. You will tap into the white/green wire for park lamp feed, and black for ground.

Thanks, found it.

This is so disappointing, really like that newer style and would love to swap mine out. Did you reach out to Recon at all to see what they say? At $180 this should not be happening at all.

I have not. I’m sure they would have no issue sending me new ones, but I’ll just run with these for a little bit. I’ve had a set of the factory 2019+ lights sitting in my parts bin for about a year, just figured I’d try the recons for the hell of it. When I get some free time coming up here, I’ll retro the factory lights in and be done with it.

Sounds like you are not alone with the moisture so I'm sure another pair would be the same. Was hoping they would acknowledge the issue and say that they had a fix it?

Did they at least line up with the factory holes? Saw one post where the person had to drill another mounting hole.

They don’t line up with the factory holes. I needed to drill a new hole for the screw towards the back.

I wanted to add cab lights to my '21 5th gen and initially tried going the route of the factory cab lights through the dealer but that ended as soon as I realized none of the 4 local dealers could be bothered to return my calls. In the end I decided to try the Recon's and bought the 19-21 fresh install only with the smoked lens in white (SKU:264345WHBK) hoping that mine wouldn't have the same condensation issues mentioned above. The only downside so far is that the kit came with zero instructions and no template (the online guide isn't to scale but it does tell you roughly where the lights should be placed. I did the install this past weekend; for anyone interested, I put together a guide on my YouTube channel here:

The very day I finished installing everything, we had aa pretty large storm hit and so far (finger's crossed) I haven't noticed any leaking (condensation or into the cab). I will follow up if this changes.

Here's some photos post install with the lights on. I really want to like this product considering how it looks at the moment. Time will tell.

Good job, didn't realize they made a 5th gen style with the traditional mount style. A ~$200 that is just lame they have no instructions or template. They don't even give you the distances for the holes? Wonder if they are the same hole pattern as the 4th gen factory lights? Any idea what it was?

I think I paid something like $140 for the kit shipped. But I definitely expected instructions on how to wire it up and a template to unfold and lay down on the roof to line things up. The only thing you can get is a pdf on their website (https://gorecon.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/264345_Placement_Installation_Guide.jpg) It gives distances but you can't scale it up and use it as a template b/c it's not to scale. The 3.5" lines in the guide are actually longer than the 3.75" lines. I essentially spent a good 3 hours with a ruler, tape measure, and various random straight edges getting things lined up and quadruple checked before drilling.

Its the same kit as a 4th gen because its the same cab…. Hence the 4.5 gen name not 5th gen

That’s the same kit I got- “2019+ fresh install”. The screw holes don’t line up with the pre-2019 cab light screw holes.

See my previous comments in this thread. Not the same kit at all.
Correct. I believe if yours comes with the lights from factory there is a separate kit specifically for the factory holes. My kit was for a "virgin" roof that required me to drill 15 holes (3 per light).
