I would like to add clearance lights to the roof of my truck and have heard negative things about Recon lights. Who did you get your aftermarket lights from and are you happy? I would have an installer do the job for me and would like to know what you feel is a fair price? Thanks for your help!

I would steer clear of aftermarket cab lights. The Recons are junk. On my previous truck I added cab lights. IN order to keep with the black out theme I ordered Recons, and the quality is crap. I opted not to install them. I then ordered two other pairs of cab lights from Putco and some other brand (i forget). None of them were high enough quality for me to risk a leak from my roof. I kept the OEM cab lights I had the dealer install and added LED bulbs and never had an issue over 140k.

During the search for my current truck I found several that had every option I wanted except cab lights. I asked about having them added, but explained I wanted the 19+ OEM LED cab lights. I got some stupid prices like $1500-2k installed. I kept looking until I found a truck with cab lights from the factory.

If I were you I would look at adding the 4th gen OEM cab lights. They will be far superior in quality than anything aftermarket. They come with a template to ensure proper mounting location. And the rubber gasket is confidence inspiring compared to the crap included with Recon, Putco, and other aftermarket brands.

I believe I still have the Putco and other smoked cab lights...if you are feeling lucky send me a PM, you pay shipping and you are welcome to have them!

Thanks for your advice! From what I have been reading, I believe that I am going to go with OEM.

My truck is at the dealer for other reasons and I asked for a quote for OEM lights to be installed. Just got the call a few hours ago that there is no kit and they will not order each part separately. Bummer, I thought this was going to be no big deal, especially because the service manager said they have done it before and it's no big deal.

My dealer told me the same thing and I'm worried about going with Recon lights.

I looked into those and did some reading here and elsewhere and they are not so great in the long run.
I did read somewhere that a dealer in AZ put stock lights on their truck but I think it was an earlier model. That might be what my dealer was talking about too. I will ask when I pick up my truck

I was personally happy my truck came without them. But if I was going to add them I’d definitely go the wireless route. Better them going out or needing replaced than 5 holes in the roof IMO.

I always wanted clearance lights. I tow a gooseneck dump on occasion but mainly because the look cool.
Witht he new build I ordered the Snow Chief package for $800 that included the clearance lights.
I know $800 is kind of pricey for clearance lights, but I got free limited slip differential, 22O amp alternator, upgraded OWS tires, skid plate, and some cool switches to acivate extra lighting.
I'm also in the factory clearance lights fan club.

It would be a big job for a dealer to install the factory ones. Large square hole for the front of each light to clip into. Another square hole for the wiring, and a third smaller hole for a clip.

Would be a lot of Dremel work or file work I would think.

Glad I factory ordered mine.

Well, I hope that I did not make a mistake but I ordered a set of the amber led clearance lights from Recon. I have an installer that will install them for me, he has done these before with no issues. I had a coupon code for $39.99 that Honey found for me so I figured I would give them a try.

I put Recon LED on my 04.5 a few years ago and they lasted exactly one year on a rarely driven truck. 72K miles when I sold in in 2020.

Maybe they have improved.

Curious, did all the lights fail or just one and was it the bulb or the socket?

Did you go with the 2019+ fresh install version? I did a little bench comparison for someone between a factory 2019+ light, and a recon 2019+ fresh install style light- https://www.cumminsforum.com/threads/5th-gen-style-cab-lights-from-gorecon.2541172/#post-29430948
I haven’t used recon before, but it seems if you ask 100 different people about them, you’ll get 100 different answers ranging from they’re the highest quality lights in the world to they only last a day. Figured I’d give them a try, and I’ll see how they do.

These are the ones that I ordered. Dodge RAM Heavy-Duty 2500/3500 19-21 5-Piece Cab Roof Light Set LED Amber Lens in Amber (Fresh Install Only). Keeping my fingers crossed!

I put these on my 2015 Ram 1500. I had one of the lights go out, they sent a new one. No other issues till I traded it in.
