Chris’ 2020 2500 6.4L

Don't forget the break in periods. First 500 miles go no faster than 50 mph. The the same when towing. First 500 miles no faster than 50 mph. Its in the owners manual and the dealer emphasized that to me. Said it prevents a lot of problems later on.

Lol! We kept it under 50 for the most part for the first almost 500 miles, just in town driving...our camper doesn’t weigh much but I did get over 50 while pulling it this weekend though.

I have been told by mechanics wiser than me it is more important to vary the RPMs and avoid driving at the same RPM for an extended period of time during the break-in period. Other mechanics have said to just dive it like you normally would (whether hard or easy) after the first 100 miles. I am somewhere in between.

Well, today was an adventure. Got to the truck accessory place at 8 and they told me the truck bringing my amp research steps was running late and would be there around 10. Got back up there at 10 and my boards had just arrived but all of the install bays were now full so I had to wait another hour for them to start. The install wasn’t bad, around 2 hours and while I was waiting I saw they had also just gotten a skid full of sliding cargo trays from cargo glide that fit my truck. I went camping last weekend and wished all weekend I had one so I could reach things up in the bed...so they gave me a couple hundred off and I had them throw one on the truck while I was waiting.

Now is when things really went downhill. I hopped in the truck to back out of the shop and I had no backup camera. Just a blue screen that said camera system unavailable. I also lost my satellite radio, almost all my Uconnect apps were missing, and the AC quit working. The only option it gave me was defrost with heat. They couldn’t figure it out so I called the dealership I got the truck from and was told it was an easy fix, they had seen it before. The Uconnect system forgot the accessories when the battery was unplugged for some reason, I could take it to any Ram dealership and they could hook it to their system and get it all reprogrammed in a few minutes. Every dealer around me said they were booked solid and to schedule an appointment in 2 weeks...so I hopped in the truck and drove the 2.5 hours to the dealership I bought the truck from and they had me up and running in no time.

You just can’t beat a good dealership...here goes my shameless plug. If anyone is around Arkansas, make sure you check out Red River dodge in heber springs Arkansas.

Anyways, just made it back home and all is right in the world again. If you are even considering the Amp Reaearch steps then take the plunge and buy once/cry once. These things are fantastic! And I believe I will love this cargo tray until I step up to a fifth wheel in a couple of years.

Looks good. I love the Amp steps on my 2007. How much of the step can you see when it isn't deployed? The factory steps can still be seen when not deployed. You cannot see them on my 2007 unless they are deployed. Did they install the light kit for the steps?

I haven’t seen them when they are tucked under but I haven’t looked super close either. I’ll snap a picture here in a bit. And yes, there are 4 lights, one for each door.

Just crawled down and looked. They are very hidden when closed.

I like that! They are less hidden than my 2007 but they look more hidden than the Mopar ones. I guess it must be true when the dealer said the factory ones were not made by Amp.

I have not messed with any of the factory ones so I have no clue but my dealer made the comment yesterday that he didn’t think the amp research steps stuck out as far as the mopar factory steps.

My Amp steps have been on my 2007 for over 12 years now. They have never had a problem. Hopefully, their quality is still the same. I think you will really like them.

Well, a new adventure begins today. I’ve spent the last few days making the truck a work truck...nicest work truck I’ve ever owned! Lol

Due to circumstances no one here is interested in I am going to be pulling campers commercially part time. Got the bed tray removed and a fifth wheel hitch and tool box installed. Also turned the back seat into a temporary bed to be able to catch some sleep. If things work out I’ll take the time to remove the back seat and free up a little more room to move

I guess it is time to put the hemi to the test and see what it’s truly made of. My truck is rated for 3000# of payload and 14,500# max towing. I figure if I can keep my units between 10,000-12,000 pounds she should perform flawlessly. Leave the bigger trailers to the diesel one tons. After a few months and I see how the hemi does I will make my decision to keep it or trade it for a ‘21 Cummins. My dealer told me the new trucks would have the redesigned fuel pump and wouldn’t be having the issues the 19 and 20’s are.

when I bought mine I thought the back fold flat rear area might make a good sleeping platform but it is a little too short for me and I am only 5'9".

i am 5 9 also...it’s a little short, but doable. If I remove the back seat and build a platform I can make it large enough to lay diagonal and have more room. I have also seen lots of people remove the passenger seat and lay front to back...much more room that way so I have options.

Updates, had the opportunity to pull a few trailers now and so far my only complaint is the 32 gallon fuel tank...so I had a 50 gallon external installed. I wanted to do a larger one but with it being a short bed truck I wouldn’t have been able to pull fifth wheels because the tank would stick up too far.
Next mods will be a cb so I can keep up with road and traffic conditions with the truck drivers and a ranchhand front bumper because of all the dead deer I’ve seen on the sides of the northern interstates. I figure the bumper will be cheap insurance and more than pay for itself if I hit one.

Hey Chris, how are you liking your console vault? Is it big enough inside and does it interfere with the sliding console tray?

I love it, plenty of room for a pew and a couple extra magazines or whatever needs to go in there with room to spare. It does not interfere with the sliding tray at all. If I had to come up with 1 complaint it would be you have to be careful what you store in the deep part in front of the sliding tray since the tray has to be slid all the way forwards to be able to open the safe. That limited me on cb mounting locations since I couldn’t mount it up and down at the front of the center console since it wouldn’t let the tray slide all the way forwards.
