Changed ATF - DPF clogged throwing dealer error

UPDATE: using the none-mopar filters has me out of warranty now! :( Shame 'Ram' doesn't warn customer they will void the warranty if you don't use their filters... Almost like this is a great excuse to slide out of contractual obligations on poop emissions equipment. I swear they, the dealer, said you're good so long as you don't replace parts with non-OEM. Either way, the dealer cleared the codes, and said I had 11 grams of soot in the system; that I would need a whole new DPF and sensors ($4K+). Long story short, I needed the truck and drove off the lot without the repairs. Around 60 miles later and a 45 minute plus regen, the truck cleared the codes and apparently burned off the 11g of soot. No more issue. Looks like I will be figuring out some aftermarket solutions to resolve this issues permanently. Thank you for all the comments here.
Not sure I’m following this correctly…

Your dealer is telling you that running the STP air filter voided your powertrain warranty?

You are following correctly, sort of, it voided the emissions systems according to them. I had an extended warranty through the dealer, with Zurich, which was bumper to bumper (ironically less the bumpers). I suspect they would use this an a future excuse on the powertrain too!

I’d question that.

Agreed, I did question it, twice. Was told it was not covered, denied, and warranty is now void. I am traveling currently. I do plan to follow up directly with Zurich when I get home.

Yeah, that’s seems strange to me. As long as you are up to date on all your maintenance intervals and have proof / records they were performed I don’t see how they can deny your warranty, any part of it. You weren’t using an aftermarket part which caused the failure. Maybe their maintenance department is subpar anyways and you should find another dealer to take your truck to. They did after all say you needed $4000 worth of work and all it took was a good long drive and a good regeneration to solve the issue.

This is explicitly what Magnuson-Moss Act was enacted for. IMG_7783.jpeg

That's total BS !! As long as an aftermarket manufacture declares that their filter is compliant with minimum filtration requirements you are fine . They have to prove the filter you used was the problem . They just can't deny your warranty . People use different filters whether air ,oil or fuel . Read your warranty closely to see if there are any clauses in it . Thousands of cars and trucks run STP filters without a problem . Haul their ass into court . Let them explain their deniability to a Judge , that should be fun to watch .

You need to escalate this to Ram cares and the dealer service manager. This is a violation of federal law. No tractions, you need to sue in small claims court based on the estimate

They probably didn't want to deal with the aftermarket warranty and tried to find a way out of it. Aftermarket warranties can sometimes be a hassle both for the mechanic and the owner. A dealer mechanic gets paid X per hour on work but an aftermarket warranty company may say they will only pay Y per hour. Dealer may insist on new oem parts but warranty company may insist on aftermarket or used parts. Aftermarket company must approve the work beforehand and can be slow to respond.

Just guessing.
