Center High Mount Brake Light - Flash/Strobe

We have a 2015 Lexus ES and the center high mount brake light pulse/flashes when the brakes are first applied. I think it’s a great safety feature.

I would like our 2020 Ram 2500 to do the same thing, but what’s the best way to do it?

I found this bulb, but I hav no idea if it is a good way to get the strobe effect when the brakes are first applied.

Please don’t, it’s super obnoxious to anyone behind you, and while dealers are installing them it’s a violation of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Brake lights are not supposed to flash.

those are usually software updates done by the selling dealer...think $xxx mandatory "option"...a couple years ago I was pricing out Yukons and the dealer charged over $500 I think for it and you couldn't buy a vehicle without it from them...

They’re not software, they’re a $2.50 chip you can buy from any Chinese parts site, or eBay, or Amazon.

Around my area most/all fire trucks running Whelen lighting packages since the early 2000’s have this feature when stepping on the brakes. Probably for the last 5 or so years the PD’s running whelen systems have this feature in their taurus/explorers. I see more and more of the German/jdm crowd now following suit.

Emergency services vehicles are different as they’re allowed to have flashing red lights.

The German and JDM crowd are doing this more and more because a lot of dealers are installing these things during PDI, and a number of vehicles in Europe do flash the brake lights or flashers, but only during a full force pedal smash.

Like most visual safety advances if it was a limited or new option it really grabbed your attention. The more commonplace it becomes the more it’s ignored.

I’d be fine with it if the devices operated like the euro cars and only flash during a panic stop. I think that’s actually a good way to indicate a vehicle is slowing down much quicker than usual, but sitting in rush hour traffic behind someone who’s CHMSL is flashing every time they move forward 2 inches makes me want to slap them in the back of the head.

I don’t normally travel in stop in go traffic and hadn’t thought about what it would be like.

I like it only coming on in a full application of the brakes.
