Any of you here in CA and have 2500 for personal use only and not commercial? Looking to find out if I can register as personal to reduce the cost at DMV...

In CA... to get more fees all trucks are registered as commercial...

A “commercial vehicle” is a vehicle which is used or maintained for the transportation of persons for hire, compensation, or profit or designed, used, or maintained primarily for the transportation of property (for example, trucks and pickups). CVC §260.

You can register it personal only if you put a camper shell on it and get non-commercial plates, and then CHP will give you a nasty ticket if they catch you without the shell on as the plates have a different/obvious number sequence.

CA, the fun state... Thanks for the response, I won't have a camper in my plans, I do have personal plates though :)
The point is this is not a work truck, pure personal use, I work in an office and own for my own use

Once upon a time, a long time ago, I resided in Ontario. They had/have the same asinine rules for pickmeups as CA. The only province in Canuckistan that requires a pickup truck to have different coloured tags as a car. Why? Because a pickup truck in Ontario is a commercial vehicle... FULL STOP! "But, but, it's for personal use and is not being employed in a commercial venture." Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) does not have the collective intelligence to process that reality. I spent hrs on the phone attempting to remedy them of their stupidity and all for naught. Makes ya wanna weep...

Thank you for the link, seems I will still have a long battle, however once DMV opens up here once more I will go in and find out

We are waiting on them as well, my son turned 16 and can’t get his license due to them being closed for road tests. Apparently you can protest and riot without a mask but can’t sit next to someone in a car...
