Black headlights : need help

Perfect, shoots some before and after pics. I’d like to see how much of a difference it makes. Or maybe a pic of one side dark and one side chrome. Thanks

During.
Yes you gotta get balls deep into the front end.

I followed the instructions I linked to earlier in the thread for the MoriMoto headlights.

Some steps were easier due to my aftermarket bumper and some steps were more difficult. I did have to remove my bumper’s upper tube to get the grille off F131BDD3-0C2B-41EB-BF95-674C2DDD5F16.jpeg

@woody284 i couldn’t really get a pic of one black and one chrome headlight on the truck because of how labor intensive the grille and trim pieces are. Hope you can get enough visual by before/after whats.

WoW that is really a in depth install. Was it overall difficult or just time consuming? The overall outcome is awesome. I will def have this done at some point. The install looks a little scary though to me. I showed the before and after to my wife and she even agreed they blacked heads look way better. Sounds like permission to me!! thanks again fir all the pictures.

The install isn’t hard, just time consuming. Lots of push clips and 10mm bolts. A few nuts are hard to see, they’re accessed through holes in the air ram under the radiator. Some push clips can be difficult, I only broke one. Popping the trim panel under the headlight off is the sketchiest part, it takes a lot of force and feels like it will break.. but, it didn’t.

oh no, I just got mine shipped to me today. I found a pair of takeoffs on ebay. My 4runner battles this problem from time to time. Forums say its the seal where the lense attaches that fails. it would be hard to tell but are the bulbs seated good?

I actually just messed around the the housings I took out. There are two little breathers to let the headlight “breathe” as the air inside it warms up. Each bulb has a seal cover or an o-ring depending on bulb. Once it quits raining I will check each bulb seal and replace if necessary with seals from the original bulb. I hope it’s not the butyl rubber seal around the lens but I’ve already contacted rock auto and asked for a new one and explained I can’t return this one til I get the new one

It should be ok i have seen it happen with new housings it eventually evaporates from the breather after a couple weeks

We got a bunch of new Durango’s at work and I did notice they had some condensation on the inside the other day. I had forgot about that

That is definitely not normal, and there’s something wrong with either the butyl seal around the lens, or the breather system. Make sure the breathers on the back are in place, and the gortex breathing patches are present under them-

If you continue to let that happen, the inside of the lens will become spotted with dirt, and dirt particles will settle on the reflectors, causing them to pit from the heat of the bulbs.
