Looking at getting a Bed Step (or Bumper Step if you prefer) for my 2500 with the Off Road Package. I think I have basically two choices… Mopar factory or Amp aftermarket. Any opinions which is better at actually getting onto and off the tailgate when using these steps? Is one higher than the other off the ground for that first step? Does one stick out further than the other to make it easier to step down from the tailgate? Basically, which is more useable?

Inquiring minds want to know. :)

Thanks for any input.

I had the amp version on my 20 3500.
Now have the factory version on my 22 3500.
I prefer the amp version, footpad is bigger and doesnt tuck in quite as tight when stowed making the amp far easier to operate with your foot. The tighter clearance when stowed and smaller extension on the footpad is a bit harder to get a "toe grip" for me.

No notable difference in stregth the mechanism and mounting looks same.

This is the AMP step I just helped my neighbor put on his 2020 2500. My 22 came with the step, I think I like the AMP better.

Does this only fit the driver's side? Is there one for the passenger side? If not, other than OEM, does anyone else make one for both sides?

I had the AMP on my 05 and 18, and have the OEM on my 22.

At first I thought the AMP was better with the larger foot pad, but after two years with the OEM step the pad size isn’t an issue and I prefer the OEM steps sleek appearance.

OEM is my choice. I had another brand and fitment was not there.

I retrofitted the OEM 19+ step on my 2018 4-5 years ago and I get compliments on it all the time.

Have the AMP, the factory was too hard to deploy for me. AMP is easier to find when getting down off the gate as well imo. Wife definitely likes the AMP more as well, she's accident prone so eases my mind lol.

I also got the factory style from Amazon. It works great and I have no hesitation recommending it.

I bought one of those from Amazon for $83, it is in every way identical to the oem unit as far as I can tell and even came with "Mopar" instruction sheet.

I would have lived without one for the $350 they want for the oem part

I got the OEM step for both of my 2019 Ram 2500's. I like this better than the bumper cutouts for a few reasons; the step is way too high, it compromises the protection of the bumper where you need it most, and it's plain ugly.

Alternative bed step...

I was going to purchase the fold down bed step and then saw this, for a third the cost of the fold down style. I use my truck for towing our RV and I'm in and out of the bed frequently. This step is more versatile than the fold down style. I can use this step on either side of the truck, it's adjustable in height, supports 1000lbs, and I can reach into the center of the bed with this step. It also allows me to reach all the way under the hood. At it's highest setting, I can wash the roof or use it as a stool while detailing the wheels. And I can step up on it with both hands full carrying a large item to place in the bed. Folds flat for storage.

Anyway, just thought I'd pass along this idea...cheers
