BAK Flip MX4 or Retrax MX Tonneau Cover for Power Wagon with RAM Boxes

With news of my 75th Anniversary Power Wagon coming closer to home, I’ve started to browse for accessories for the new truck.

One of the accessories I am looking at is a tonneau cover for the PW with RAM Boxes.

What are your thoughts between the Retrax retractable MX tonneau versus the BAK flip MX4 tonneau cover.

I have the BAK Flip MX4 and Ram Box. It works as advertised and I am happy with it. I have no experience with the Retrax, so I can't comment on it.
 
With the Retrax retractable my friend has one and we both thought it was the best thing since sliced bread however after a couple of years or so it got a little harder to slide back and forth and a little nosier. But to be fair he is on dirt roads all the time. We were not quite sure if it was dirt or dust because it was suppose to be sealed bearings. He did phone Retax and they told him to use ONLY Paraffin wax to lube the rails and they also said if you use anything else if could corrode the bearings.
It was also huge money here in Canada. I don't care for the large box in the back of the bed that receives it when it is retracted.
 
I had the RetraxPro MX on the 1500 and loved it for security reasons so it was a no-brainer for me to get it again. However this truck is a lot taller and it would have been hard to unlock and open with Ramboxes so I went with the PowerTraxPro MX after getting a decent deal on it. Yeah the can does get in the way on a few occasions but again the security is worth it to me. Personally I don't like the flip-up covers.
 
On my 2nd MX4 (w/o RamBox) and have loved both. I have a 2500 on order with RamBoxes so, I will order another one when it gets here. You can also order the BakBox which is a handy tool box that fits under cover. It’s about the size of a retractable box, but, if you need the room, you can empty the toolbox amd it will fold up!! I love it. Not sure if they make a BakBox that fits with RamBox, now that I think about it.

I have the RamBox and the Bakflip MX4. There is no need for the Bakbox when you have the RamBox.

Question…Do you have the Utility Rails in the Bed and if so, does the cover still give you access to move the plastic tie downs on the utility rails. Reason I ask is that one the accessories that I want to get are the Mopar Crossbars; to install a Bike Rack onto the cross bar for my bikes.

Yes you use those instead of the BAKflip rails to install and you can still move your tie downs around
 
I went with the Bakflip Revolver X4S on my '20 2500 w/ Rambox. Liked the black look when rolled back. Cover itself is nice but the rail install was a huge PITA! The Bakflip rails have rivets that bind on the Rambox rails. Had to use a dremel to mod them and soapy water to help slide the rails in. BFH and block of wood definitely needed!

What kind of interest rate did you get on the loan and how many months did you finance? Just kidding. Where did you purchase it from?

No loan, but close lol. I got it here: Tonneau Cover Warehouse. Worked a deal and paid $2100 for it back in February but it seems they've gone way up on price like everything else lately.
 
My last 2 MX4’s, I bought from TonneauCovered.com. I offered them $799 for each one and they accepted offer. Just email them or call them.

Thanks for the tip however, the locations I found for TonneauCovered.com are only in the US.

As my long awaited PW-75 is being delivered immediately after Labor Day, I have to buy locally as opposed to snatching up a deal down South (when the borders open up).

Prior to purchasing the BAK flip MX4, I had a chance to try on a 3 panel to compare.

Findings…..

Process of install is similar.

Surface texture of panel of MX4 is more fine and similar to the PW-75 bumpers.

3 panel will cover the Center Brake Light camera(s) when flipped up to utilize the whole truck bed when driving.

4 panel (MX4) WILL NOT cover Center Brake Light camera(s) when flipped up to utilize the whole truck bed when driving.

NOTE: Center Brake Light Cameras providing view of Truck Bed Box and Rear View as my optioned package included the cameras.
