Backflip mx4 issues

I had the BacFlip G2 on my last two trucks and loved it except for the cover blocking the rear window when folded open to make full use of load higher then the sides of the box (trips to the dump with tree limps, etc). They sealed out water, dust, etc.
Now I got the Bac revolver x4 (roll type) and regret it because it doesn’t seal like the BacFlips did, it looks like it will but water gets in very easily especially at the tailgate. It has the same seal as the MX4 I think.
I would put up with the rear window covered when folded up if I had known and got anther G4.

I had the MX4 installed on my PW with Ram Box and one side sealed perfectly but the other side didn't. After opening the box the seal would get caught below the back of the box lid. I'm going to try to adjust it this weekend. I think it may be too low, the installer might have been trying to make it fit tight? Unfortunately I had it installed in South Carolina while visiting family so I won't be able to take it back to the installer.

I fixed mine by grinding off some material on the sliding lock side. About 2mm.

I was initially sent the incorrect cover. Once I received the correct one, it went on easy. I did have to remove screws and adjust the latches closest to tailgate to get it to close. They were so wide it wouldn't close at all. Overall I would rate 7 out of 10. Several attention to detail issues that could be corrected with some quality control. One of the rubber pieces that is on the edge rails was nearly 1/2" short.. I had some similar so stuck it in there. I would expect for the cost, they quality would be a bit higher. I had the G2 on my last 2 trucks and it sealed very well. I'm not certain this design will keep all the water out around the tailgate as well, but time will tell.

I experienced this exact issue with my 2016 Sierra Denali, and I agree with you 100% that the quality of the materials included with this cover system does not justify the suggested retail price of $1k+.

anyone else have issues with the backflip mx4? I installed it per instructions and the cover seems to fit fine towards the front and middle but the rear most panel didn’t want to close and it appeared the latching mechanism was too wide.

I adjusted it and it closes, but I didn’t read anywhere else that this might be necessary so I’m thinking maybe something is off. The cover rails cannot be pushed any further towards the bed rails.

Not thrilled with this cover so far

Yes, I just received my bakflip mx4 today and followed the instructions all the way through. The cover fits fine at the cab, but doesn't seem to fit at the tailgate. I had to remove the self tapping screws from both side latches and move them in one hole/space. It closes now but I was really surprised and not impressed that I had to go through this. Not "plug and play" as advertised!

I ran across this same problem. I can see how the latch can be adjusted, but mine is already in as far as they can go because they are tight against the channel that runs across the whole cover that has the pull cord in it. The only way I can see that working is if I removed it and cut it down a bit, which I won't mess with. I am about ready to give up on this and request a refund because it's been over a month since I ordered it and have been able to use it yet because a rail was bent on the initial one they sent me and I just got that today. It's just been a hassle and I might just get a soft cover like a Gator SFX or something for a quarter of the price.

The finish started wearing off after a few years and I also found the thing heavy to fold up unless I was standing in the bed. Then there was the issue of the back window being covered if I needed the whole bed. Ended up going with a Truxedo roll up for this truck. Glad I did.

I got instructions to remove the screws and move the latch in and drill new holes and that will work. However, I see what you mean about it being heavy and bulky and doesn't look like it seals tight up front or over the. Plus I am already annoyed at the issues I had so far, so I guess I am noticing every little loose piece of adhesive or cap and for the steep price, maybe I am expecting too much. It does look nice though, but I am thinking when I go camping and stuff, I will have to have it fully open or off anyways so this will mostly just be closed if I have to go to the store or to put luggage under it or something to keep it dry and somewhat secure. Maybe this isn't the best option for me. Is that roll up one you mention secure at all, or can someone just peel up the velcro? Does it give you pretty much full bed access when rolled up? How is it in keeping the water out?

I am now using a Truxedo X15 Pro. It does a great job keeping water out. The BakFlip leaked at the joints. The X15 does allow full use of the bed when rolled up. It uses Velcro so it can be opened but it keeps stuff hidden and out of mind. The way it is designed one would have to cut the cover to get anything out of the bed. It is easy to roll up and unroll without getting into the bed. Apart from the BakFlip I have always used rollups and have never had an issue with theft. On the other hand, if some thief wants it bad enough, nothing will stop them.

The issue I had with the Bakflip revolver (roll-up) was it would freeze in the locking channel during the winter and I was unable to open it. I never had that problem with the MX4 on my 1500. I have the MX4 for the 2500, but not the truck. LOL. We will see if I have any of the mounting issues if/when the truck ever gets here.
