So with my new ram I have been watching fuel consumption and have the average and instantaneous fuel usage on the dash. I have noticed that the average changes pretty fast so it must not be an average for life. Does anyone know the miles/kms that it tracks for?

Also your Trip A and B will track their MPG as well

The average mpg displayed that is not part of the trip A and B counters i believe is the average over the past 500 miles.

AFIK, it’s the average since reset. If I reset it with Trip A or B it stays the same as that trips mpg regardless of the miles driven.
Average since reset.
Our Acura RDX automatically resets Trip A when gas is filled. I like that, but wonder is that’s an option in the Acura’s settings. I haven’t looked to see if it’s an option in the Ram’s settings.

I agree.
I have my lifetime since I’ve owned my truck.
However, I use the B trip meter to track my oil change and thus it gives me a 5k mpg average.

i was watching it closely and I think this is correct. I had a trip meter going for my last fill and it was bad mileage on soft muddy roads for 800km and the “lifetime” mileage soon caught up to the trip. My trip got 14.5L/100 and my average before that was 13L/100 But it was climbing fast and ended up at 14.3. I am convinced it is not a life of the truck average But like you said 500 miles or something like that.
