Automatic Regen too often

This will be the last update for my truck on this thread. I attached my regen log, and as you can see it is very routine. I’ve gotten no help from my dealer service department other than being told that they can’t help until it throws a code. I reached out to Ramcares and they are useless. The person that responded clearly didn’t read my message or look at my service paperwork and regen log.

I looked exhaustively into trading it in on a Hemi truck or selling it myself. The values have tanked so badly since I bought mine last August that I wasn’t willing to do that considering all the time and money I’ve put into it already. So let’s just say I am taking care of this problem myself for good. I intended to do this eventually just not this soon. Unfortunately it was the best option I had. Like some of you I was sick of staring at the dpf gauge all the time and wondering when my truck was going to break down. Hopefully after this it will give me many years and miles of trouble free use.

Have you been following your oil level? It's pretty sickening that they can't hold up to their warranty. It does show you that you might as well wipe your ass with it and flush it. My 10 month battle with them just show they really don't care. I was in the same boat of trading in but to get into something new ill be adding $30-40k or sell private party to yeld more.

I have been. I actually did my last oil change after only 5,400 miles because the level was above the safe mark. I mentioned that and told the service department about it before I brought it in and they didn’t check it or bother to sample it. I have a sample kit from Geno’s that I plan to send in just for myself to see what it says.

I just don’t see my truck throwing a code. It’s been doing this same regen pattern for 2 months now. It was doing it for a couple weeks before I started logging it.

Dealers make a big difference. My dealer has been very good and I think maybe they finally resolved the issue. I get the impression from my dealer Stellantis is getting worse by the day. He didn't say but I wonder if they're having trouble with approvals and reimbursements.

It does but dealership will only do so much. Once stelantis gives up and cuts off the customer the dealership can't do much more as it will cost them a ton.

I would think, or at least hope, that if you send in the oil sample and get negative results like mine (10% fuel dilution) that the dealer and stellantis would have to do something. Mine never threw a code, but the fleetguard report from my OS specifically flagged that the dealer needs to check stuff out like injectors, etc. They changed the MAF and DPF. As of yesterday I have 10k miles since I got it back, back in August. With the exception of 1 time all the post replacement regens have been 24 hour timed regens. With that said, I am seeing jumps in soot almost immediately after regens and it takes longer to passive regen then it did when the replaced DPF was new. I'm hopeful it's just related to winter blends and cooler weather, but only time will tell

I hear you there and to be honest I just don’t want to go through what you have. I don’t want to deal with bringing it to the dealer and dealing with the service department. I don’t have the patience

Okay, here's a new twist. Yesterday the EVIC soot gauge gets into the 30% range we're all familiar with so I take on my usual passive regen trip. I'm at about 20 hrs since the last timed one so I figure things are more or less normal, at least for this piece of junk. I have noticed passive regens have been taking a little longer these days, and yesterday was no exception. In fact, the best I could do with the time I had was to get back down to that 10 - 12% range.

This morning I go to town with the gauge sitting on 10 -12%, do a bunch of errands and pick up some materials. Just putting around town driving for about an hour or so. On my way back home I scroll down to the soot screen and to my bewildered eyes I see the gauge at zero. Such strange goings on...

Heard from a service advisor that if you have a cold air intake it will void any frequent regen claims.
I imagine just about anything extra you do or don’t do will void the warranty on this problem since they don’t know how to fix it.

Yep service advisor also told me Ram implemented a new program for warranty work. It will be harder to get stuff covered under warranty. I don't see Ram surviving 2025 at this pace.

There's every indication that Stellantis is cratering. But hey, their latest creation is an extended range EV truck with a Pentastar ICE that recharges the batteries as you drive ( https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a39038431/ram-1500-ev-truck-range-extender-report/ ). Lee Iacocca is rolling in his grave, again.

Not many people are probably on LinkedIn but i follow Stellantis seems to be shifting all their products that way. it will be interesting to see how they over come the bad sales of it in the US market lol.

I think they have an overabundance of European arrogance and hubris. That has never played well with we Yanks. Our Declaration of Independence spells that out nicely.

I was going to comment about this but it makes my blood boil from some of the crap going on. Since it has no verifiable connection to regens, I’ll be quiet.

They will either learn how we are or cut off some brands. i am looking forward to the next 4 years, sure hope the EPA gets a spanking.

I don’t think there is actually anything wrong with my DPF. I’ve never seen an engine light and I’ve never even gotten the screen telling me I need to let my regen finish. So to me that TSB isn’t going to fix anything even if they replaced it.

I’m curious to see how the dpf looks when I pull it off. Honestly I’m expecting it to look pretty clean

Check the tubes that go to the differential pressure sensor. That switch is what triggers the regen other than the 24 hour ones.

My 2020 will bounce up and down in mixed driving until it does a 24 hour regen. Occasionally, it will hit a forced regen before 24 if there's too much town driving but nothing like what some of you are experiencing.
