Automatic Regen too often

Sorry for the late response, I was out of town all weekend putting up deer stands and had no cell service. Which is a wonderful thing sometimes.

Yes mine is a 22, built on September 23rd so it does fall in the TSB window. My truck also did have the Y43 recall done. It was done a couple days before I bought the truck on 8-8-23 . It was a brand new leftover with 18 miles on it. So thanks for the info on the warranty for the DPF, I did not know that. I will refrain from using the additives for now as I don’t see it being long until it throws a code.

I started tracking my regens on 10-7-24, since then I’ve had 6 regens in exactly two weeks time. In that time I’ve driven only 1,329 miles and 23 engine hours of drive time. Almost half of those miles have been towing and it’s all highway. I changed my oil only 5,400 miles ago but with all of these regens I think I should change it soon. It actually did a regen twice last Friday. Once on the way to work and then again on my way home. I always let them finish before stopping or shutting the truck off. I attached a picture of my regen’s since I started tracking. I have pictures of each time as well.

Thank you for the reply and info.

A little update here. My dealer wants me to bring my truck in. The service manager says maybe they can get the TSB done without the code being thrown. I highly doubt that will happen but at least this way it will start the record in their system of what is happening with my truck. I checked my oil before heading home from work. My truck was sitting for almost 11 hrs. I pulled the dipstick, wiped it off and then checked it and it is well over the safe mark. 5,500 miles since my last oil change.

A pull, then wipe and then reinserting to check can give you a false reading. The suction will pull oil into the dipstick tube. Best just to let it set on even ground for a while, the 11 hrs you waited would be fine, just pull and check.

No problem with a wipe and recheck, the actual tube is not submerged in the oil, so it won't pull anything back up the tube

If that’s the case it was the same the first time I pulled it out.

Mine did the same thing altho I had almost 10% fuel dilution by 2700 miles. New DPF and MAF in August so far seems to be doing OK. I have 7000 miles on them since then. We will see long term tho as I've read about many who got the new dpf and maf, and were good for about 10k miles before hiccups happened again.

I’m dropping the truck off this evening and the appointment is for tomorrow. That is my concern as well, that even if they are able to go ahead and perform the TSB it will just do this again. I’m still torn on what to do. I don’t need a diesel but I do like the truck a lot. Just not sure I like it enough to deal with this headache if it continues. And if they do say I have to wait until it throws a code before they’ll do anything it may make up mind for me. I’ll let the process play out for now and report back with what they say.

There is a certain amount of anxiety owning these trucks. Mine hasn’t had the problems like most people on here. I have had some early regens when I first got the truck but I think the dealership I was taking it to for the recalls was idling the truck when they were flashing the computer to keep the batteries up. My lifetime regen average is 21.7 hours and 859 miles. I think we can forget about a tune change after what Cummins has been through and with the governing bodies wanting to do away with ICE’s, I don’t see a permanent fix coming from Stelantis. Only bandaids to get them through the warranty period.

Yeah and I had intended to take care of the emissions issues myself when the appropriate time came. But at only 32k miles on the truck I’m just not sure I’m comfortable taking that risk.

A lot of us are in that boat. Here where I live a complete diet (including pre 2022 ecm) is $5500. A basic diet that maintains the current ecm is $3500. I have 35,500 miles as of today. I dont want to screw up the warranty but if the problems are caused by the EPA junk anyways...perhaps I shouldn't worry. So I continue to sit on the fence with you and some other folks.

Yep, I have the diet package in my cart saved on my phone. The $5000+ option. I very much appreciate this forum and this thread and all the info it has provided. I’d really be lost and angry without it

This morning I left my shop soot building in town 38deg outside about 1/4 on the guage. I am towing about 10,000lbs Once I got on the freeway it started to clear. Mountain pass was 32 degs for 30 miles. Once I got to the other side of the pass 45deg and rapid change in say 5 miles. Driving another 15miles it built back up to 1/4 on the guage.

Typically driving from my side of the mountain to the beach there is always a big difference in temperature year round. Summer time Typically is 20-30 difference and winter is 10-20 difference.

But it will transfer from the stick to the tube and make it harder to get an accurate measurement.
If it’s pulled and reinserted multiple times…yes
But one wipe and recheck shouldn’t cause such an egregiously high reading. I’d say the sump is over its capacity

I’ve also found that the oil filter will drain back to varying degrees depending on the filter brand/model and the position the engine/oil pump stops in. I have had the LF16035’s be only half full when removed.
