Automatic Regen too often

Took my truck into the dealer yesterday to have the y43 recall addressed along with the "service exhaust system, see dealer" message I received last week. The CEL went away the day after it showed up but I wanted them to address it anyway. The service manager said the Y43 recall was what caused the CEL in the first place and that now that I have the Y43 PM sensor addressed the issue is gone.

This doesn't check out IMO since my truck has never had the second PM sensor and had not previously had a CEL for the exhaust system. My truck has not received any flashes or updates so this sounds like a cop out to me and likely didnt address the actual issue that caused the CEL and the more frequent regens that my truck has been going through. Im not holding my breath that this fixed anything but we shall see.
So did you have the recall done at all? If not, then how in the world did it cause the MIL?

Yes, sorry to clarify, I had the recall done yesterday. The light had gone off before I ever got to the dealer so im not sure how they think the two are related.

I have a decent dealer I think. Haven’t had any problem getting an appointment for the recalls but when they did the Y43 on my truck in January they didn’t put the wire for the sensor in the holders where it goes. The cable was just hanging. I fixed it when I got home and it took all of 5 minutes. I’m very thankful that recalls are the only reason I have had to go back. And they think people will come back to have maintenance work done ? If I run up on something I can’t do myself, I’ll pay someone who knows what they are doing.

Absolute cop out. It wouldn't have had the computer code to recognize any fault from a lacking PM sensor.

Ram is going to hell. It's like their level 3 mechanic telling me about anti drain back valves and not installing the Donaldson filter i left with them specifically for them to install. They're all a bunch of liars. I'm beyond believing ignorance at this point, and am moving on to malice. They could care less about the customers. Just push the vehicle out the door, get paid then wait for it to come back. Wash, rinse, repeat. "Endless" stream of cash until the brand fully burns, and no one buys them anymore

Highly doubt the CEL was related to the lack of a PM sensor. Only DTC I could think might be caused by that would be the U02A3 which I believe is “lost communication with PM sensor”. There have been a few trucks that were generating “lost communication with PM sensor” DTC’s without having Y43 completed. Some, not all, of these have been caused by dealers doing recent PCM updates with the latest flash version (the one that includes the programming for the PM sensor) without having the sensor installed. This can make the truck generate that DTC, since it’s “looking” for a signal from the PM sensor but not getting one due to its absence. On the other hand, for as yet unexplained reasons, a couple trucks have generated that same DTC without getting any PCM flashes. Not sure what the cause is for those, and the dealers have been perplexed as well.

Yup totally agree - I chuckled to myself when he told me the two were related. The code was only there for 1 day then went away and did not come back. IMO it would be close to impossible for the missing sensor to cause the CEL. In all honesty taking the truck in was a thought experiment as much as anything. Truck has been regenning every 100 miles or so for the last couple months and was curious if they would even acknowledge that there could be a problem.

They didnt but at least now the emissions recall is done and itll make it easier to sell this truck if I decide to do so. I love the truck but dont trust it and am considering deleting or going to a Ford.

Ya I was pretty skeptical of that reasoning but didn't think it was worth pushing back. Im just going to see what happens for now.

Well atleast you got a 12 month warranty extension for the DPF.

Hmmm. Maybe I should wait until the 5/50 warranty is up to get the Y43 recall done to get this extra year. But I just got the ABS software recall notice and guessing if I take it in for that the dealer will do the Y43 then as well.

Sounds like a plan to me. I got the ABS reflash done 7/18.

This trucks confuses me so much. I've been using the Archoil additive for a few weeks. I do think it has helped.
Yesterday I went on a 150 mile round trip interstate drive. DFP started at 40 ish % full. Triggered a Regen... lasted 20 minutes. Not abnormal. Then over the course of 100 miles refilled the DPF from 0 to 25%. Half way to another Regen. Again all interstate, 73 miles per hour over an hour drive.

This morning start it up and drive to work. 15 miles, all highway only 60 MPH. Darn thing passively regened back to 0 within 10 miles. Geez.

Probably a lot cooler and better air quality this morning than the other day. This is the problem a lot of people are experiencing with hot weather. Me included.

I've had my DPF and MAF replaced recently, as is well known on here. I did not run archoil the first tank of fuel as the dealer filled it and I drove it to Kansas, filled without archoil and returned home. It did then have 6400d and now the performance dose 6500. I have had one 24 hour regen at about 1400 miles, and another 120 miles since. So far other then 2 short trips causing it to hit the 12% mark, it has not left 0 with just the one 24 hr regen. I'm incredibly hopeful the MAF was the issue, but not so hopeful I get disappointed if the truck ends up back in the shop. I'm sure the new dpf could theoretically mask the issue longer. I just got home after a fill up, and currently the truck is cooling off while I let the oil settle. The plan is to check it again. So far it hasn't left the full line. Before the repairs with 2600-2700 miles on the oil, the oil analysis registered nearly 10% dilution...and it was obvious on the dipstick. We shall see though. Today is about the halfway point and if the fuel in oil was caused by something else, it should be visible soon, if not today

This is exactly where it was the day I picked it up from the dealer 17 days ago
