Two questions:
Does anyone know how many miles between regens will throw a CEL?
Miles are immaterial, it's all based on hours but I don't know how many regen are required in 'x' hours to trigger the CEL.
For an example of miles I've had 24 hour regens with 197 miles on it and the computer doesn't care or think anything is wrong.
Secondly, what temp at EGT3 is good for passive regen?
650° is where passive regen is supposed to start, so with temp loss as long as EGT1 is above 650° and EGT3 is above 600° you should be getting some passive regen, but that also depends on what conditions the engine is operating in. I've seen soot build rapidly with EGT3 above 700°, happened to me today.
As others have said and have told me in this thread, 70-75 is an ideal speed and creates enough work for the engine causing the EGTs to get high enough for passive regen but 60 mph is the speed limit where I am and I’m not going to constantly go over the limit by that much. The EGTs have a good jump going from 60 mph to 70 mph but I still think it’s insane to have to go 10 over the highway limit for the filter to clear out.
Speed isn't as good of indicator as mpg. Less than 18 mpg steady state and passive regen is occurring. I can see 20-21 steady state at 75 on the EVIC and while it's generally not accumulating much soot at that mpg its also not really cleaning the DPF either.
