Are LED trailer lights the cause of Towing Light Check not working?

My 2024 3500 Light Check function has never worked. I finally got it to the dealer 2 weeks ago to get it fixed. The dealer is trying to blame LED lights on the 40' 5th wheel RV as the reason the Light Check doesn't work. Sounds like a BS/I don't want to figure out the real problem answer to me. I'd like some ammo to take back to the dealer- anyone have LED trailer lights and a functioning Light Check? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Every light on my camper is LED, including all the rears. Light checks have always worked. Also, I occasionally tow a boat trailer with all LED lights, and the light check works on that trailer too. Both trailers were purchased in 2024.

I have heard of people installing a relay in some situations that solved this issue.

My light check will function without a trailer attached so trailer light type shouldn't matter, this applies to pre '25 trucks, not sure if the new trucks are the same or not

It really makes sense that the check light doesn't need a trailer attached to work. It's just cycling through the truck lights. I started looking deeper into the towing and trailer page. It shows a trailer connected when there isn't one. The only gauge that works is the trailer brake. The rest don't show any readings. I have a lot more to share with the dealer now. Thank you to all for your assistance!

On a side note- what is Ram Cares? I've seen it on a few posts. Thanks again!

Ram Social Care Specialists, are a part of the Customer Care Team and work in tandem with dealerships and internal teams to assist you with your concerns. They monitor forum threads to keep an eye out for your concerns and occasionally reach out to offer support. The best way to reach them is by sending a private message or tagging them in a post.

I suspect their teams are comprised of college students participating in an internship program. They can be helpful but have no real power when it comes to dealerships.

2022 3500. All LED lighting on the 5th wheel and “light check” works great. The trailer functions aren’t available unless something is plugged into the 7-way plug.

The trailer light type makes no difference . Trailer light check just drives the outputs. If it is not functional - the problem may lie with radio software. Have the dealer do an overall update. The trailer light check once initiated will drive the truck light with or without a trailer once it is initiated in the radio

I just pulled an open car hauler with all LED lights on it, and the light check from the truck worked every time. Couldn't check reverse lights since the trailer didn't have them, but everything else was perfect.

Well here's an update on my check lights function: Thanks to the members here who educated me on the bigger picture/problem. The activate check lights doesn't work because nothing on my towing page is working. The gauges on the towing page do not register when the EVIC clearly shows that there are readings. The towing page indicates there is a trailer connected when there isn't. The trailer TPMS I paid extra for doesn't register on the towing page either.

The dealer has worked on it twice, the last time with a Stellantis "engineer". He got it to work so I thought I was good to go. The fix lasted a couple of days then nothing. The dealer told me they are waiting for an answer from the engineering team as this is a known problem. I called Ram Care to get some assistance. What a joke! They told me to take it back to the dealer and then I have to call Ram Cares to get a technical specialist assigned to the problem. I live 2 1/2 hours from the dealer so this isn't ideal. I asked if they could schedule a time with the dealer so I wasn't wasting a trip. Nope, that impossible and against our process. I am a tad bit frustrated you might say. Has anyone gone through this with a positive outcome? Thanks for letting me vent.

I have no idea if this will work, but on the promaster forum, there have been some electronics issues solved by unhooking the negative cable off the battery, pumping the brakes 5 times, waiting for a while, and then reconnecting. Apparently it triggers some kind of re-set. I had not heard of it before. I am assuming that ram trucks and ram promasters use similar electronics. Again, complete WAG.

I don't know much about the lemon law. I wonder how much of a hassle and cost I'll be inviting into my life...
Each state has its own criteria. Generally, it is 30 days out of service (they don't have to be consecutive) or 3 failed repair attempts of the same problem, and it is within 2 years of sale; but you need to check the laws in your state. And most of the time the manufacturer is responsible for lawyer fees (if you decide to get a lemon law lawyer).

You can also use the BBB Autoline dispute resolution process if you want to do it without a lawyer.

Thank you for that information.

If you do anything, do a buy back and NOT a lemon law.

If you start the Lemon Law nobody will no longer talk to you from the dealer or FCA - they will refer to their attorney and your attorney will have to negotiate from there on out and its a long process.

I have a 2024 3500 and never had an issue with the trailer light check. What exactly was done? Have you tried a factory reset on the radio from the settings menu?

The dealership brought in a Mopar "engineer" to work on the problem. I honestly don't know what he did to my truck. Whatever it was worked for a couple of days then the problem came back. I haven't tried the factory reset. I assume that will reset all of the functions and we'll have to go through the personal settings again.
