I had a 2012 ram 3500 and sold it 2 years ago. I always ran valvoline premium blue. From FCA I see they are in bed with Shell and we should run rotella but Cummins appears to still align with Valvoline. I never had issues with valvoline and it’s cheaper than rotella.

I now have a 2021 6.7. What do you guys think about me running Valvoline 10w30 during the Nov-March time and then valvoline 5w40 During the warmer months? I’m in the Dallas area. I know what the manual says - I could run 10w30 year around.

I plan to keep this truck for 10 years.

I’d run what Cummins recommends and be done with it, regardless I don’t feel like the Cummins is as temperamental about its oil like the princess Hemi is.
 
I'll be running the 5/40 all year. I'm in sunny S0Cal with an annual trip to Oregon in the fall.
The manual allows for it

That is robbery, you can do the oil change and both fuel filters for about $150 yourself in less time than you'd wait in the dealership lobby. The front filter is the only somewhat difficult part because the truck is so tall and it's pretty far back.

Your engine doesn't know what kind of oil is in it and it doesn't care. As long as it's a solid name brand with a decent additive package in the correct weight. IMO the only time you need to be concerned with oil is on race motors or severe duty applications.
 
I'll take your advice and change the oil and filter myself. As for the fuel filters, that can be tricky and messy. I watched someone changing their fuel filters on youtube where they spilt most of the fuel on the floor, with the truck on a lift no less.
 
If thy want to charge to grease the front driveshaft RUN! It doesn’t have any lube points anymore. They sound crooked er than a dogs hind leg.

I would love to see how your changing oil/filter and fuel filters for 150$ i am 300$ Just for them in canada so you should be about 200$ minimum

Ordered a set of fuel filters off Amazon(no they were not fake) for $90 on sale, about $10 for a Mopar oil filter and $20/gallon for Shell Rotella with rebate. So fine, $160 for the whole thing. Taking the sale prices out it would be close or at $200 but with 10k miles between changes I have plenty of time to shop for deals.
 
Genosgarage.com sells a pack with the 2 fuel filters and an oil filter, all mopar, for $113. And you can buy
Valvoline Premium Blue 5w40 full synthetic for $58 On Amazon. only takes about an hour and you know it’s done right without an BS from the dealer.

The fuel filters are easy. Cut a piece of garden hose for the front filter to extend the existing drain hose and you can drain into a bottle or some
type of container. Get a piece of tubing and do the same for the rear and you should have no problem with spilling fuel. Easy change! Just make sure you cycle the key on and off several times after replacing the filters to make sure they’re primed properly.

Ordered these from Geno’s on Tuesday and received today (2 days) even though I got an email saying they were waiting for a shipment on one of the filters. I’ve bought filters from Amazon, but getting harder to figure out which sellers are legit. Geno’s has good price and great customer service. Plus they put little goodies in the box. :)
 
There’s a lot of fake stuff on Amazon so I’m careful about what I buy there when it comes to important things like filters.
