Question, why not just use a milk crate? You can flip it over for a step and use it to hold stuff when not being a step. I keep mine under the tonneau and held down with a bungee cord. Cost me $0.00 and is never in the way or seen until needed.

Because my milk crates hold my propane tanks in the bed of my truck.
 
I got a bed step 2 for dually... opened the box and says 8" bed only. Of course my truck is a mega cab short bed.

Im going to attempt to install it anyway..

It all worked out great. I had to make some small modifications but got the step installed and it hides nicely.
