All purpose ball mount recommendation

There are so many brands out there just pick one you like the look of and you will be happy…. I was looking at the fastway aluminum hitches and the weighsafe hitches before i saw the curt at 1/2 the price of the others and is rated slightly higher

I saw one of these Anderson 5th wheel hitches at Buc-ee's the other day and thought it was a great design by looking at the setback... until I learned it was Aluminum and there are many NTSB/DOT reports of failures. Here is a site with all the info from many sources.

I don't buy a hitch because it looks good, we don't use aluminum hitches at work for towing and payload testing for a reason.

Have you seen the horror stories on their Aluminum 5th-wheel hitches? When it comes to holding onto a huge RV, I want NOTHING Aluminum.
Have not seen any of the horror stories but I haven’t been looking for them. I only haul a 28’ fifth wheel but I have friends that have 40’ and bigger Heartland fifth wheels and haul theirs all over the country and never any problems. I would suspect user error on most of the horror stories.

I assumed the same thing... then I found by reading some of the stories the 5th'er mount requires constant re-torque of the assembly. This can only mean the aluminum is "settling" and how many cycles does it take before it finally fails? I'm happy I found the link and info as I was actually looking for a 5th wheel to gooseneck offset hitch.

What hitch did you end up using ?

Or buy a hitch that is "user" proof... which is not Anderson if that's really the case.

I love aluminum. We use it a lot at our company.
But it will not be towing anything on my truck. There is so many documented failures out there to see that there is a problem. Both on 5th wheel and bumper hitches. Granted it is probably a small percentage, but still a lot more than steel.

Its the same idea as aluminum wheels needing retorque…

Exact same setup I have

I have a BP 6 inch drop for my current 2500 but fear I will need to go with an 8 inch drop when my 3500 arrives. We'll see if it sits taller or the heavier springs and air suspension hold the rear end up just a smidge higher when towing.
