AlfaOBD and other Scan Tools - Bypass cable needed if just monitoring values?

Let me apologize up front if this has been discussed before. There is so much AlfaOBD information here and on other sites that I easily could have missed it while searching.

My question....My 2021 3500 has the rear air suspension option and I want to monitor output from each of the two rear height sensors. I don't want to make any changes to my truck - just monitor values in the various modules (e.g. BCM). I'm thinking that the new security that FCA added to our vehicles might allow monitoring of values, but prohibit any uploaded changes. My goal is to get AlfaOBD connected so that I can monitor the values, and I'd prefer to not install the bypass cable unless its necessary.

I believe you are correct. Without a bypass cable you can still read, you just can't write.

Ok, here's verification of that from Jimmy07.
