Aisin transmission fluid change

i just went through this over the weekend and oh my freaking god those four bolts hidden by that cross member… grrrr!!

I used the hose trick but still that was not fun at all, even worse getting the pan back up with the gasket not shifting was a miracle and only took about five beers to accomplish…

Regarding a socket, the cutout for the bolt on the pan is too small for even a tiny 1/4 drive 10mm socket, the actual bolt barely fits through it. I’m tempted to pickup and extra 10mm socket and grind it right down to “very shallow” so I could use it to pull that screw out, may also try a flexible 10mm nut driver if I can find one that isn’t too large.

If I ever meet the Design Engineer at a bar …. Well violence will ensue lol.

Curious if anyone uses AMSOIL Signature Series ATF in their ASIN? Im coming up on 30k miles so time to flush the fluid and was considering using this.

I did on my '18 and will on my '22 on my 24 month service in September.

You don't need to flush, a simple drain and fill is all that's required.

Did my 18 Aisin a couple weeks ago. Snap On 1/4-drive shallow universal socket fit just fine all the way across the back.

Have you ever tried using your wifes sewing thread to hold the gasket in place then remove once a few bolts are in?

With only 4k on my 2024 Im a ways away from needing to do the trans service, although I will probably do it much earlier than is required (probably around 15k) because its the first service. Does the filter need to be replaced with every 30k drain/fill? And how important is the 30k miles vs the 24 months? I've typically ignored the time-based service intervals and only pay attention to the miles.

Your owners manual calls for the filter at 48months/60K miles.

If you care about your warranty use the time based maintenance if it occurs before you hit the mileage.

Welp, then I guess I'll be doing it at 24 mos cuz no way I'll be at 30k by July 2026. I won't even be at 12k.

I purchased a new transmission crossmember with the plan of modifying it as others have done for easier fluid changes. I am trying to decide if I should remove a continuous notch, following the shape of the pan, or doing radius reliefs at each bolt location. I figure I would use a hole saw at each bolt location, large enough to slip a half section of cold rolled tubing in place and weld those in. I think that would be a simpler choice, and minimize the amount of welding needed. This would also maintain any internal gussets in the crossmember.

I see everyone mentioning the gasket issue when re-installing the pan, and if that really is an issue, then the full notch may be necessary. Any thoughts?

Less than 6K miles a year? I’d drive it more.
I bought it July 2024 and its got 4450 miles as of today. We're towing to Pismo Beach next month and that'll be the longest trip we've taken yet, about 800 miles round trip. I still won't be at 6k miles. LOL

im hitting 30k miles today. going to do the oil/trans fluid shortly.

from what i can tell, pull the plug, let drain, add till till topped off. done for the trans? i got the amsoil fluid for the trans as well.

Once you fill it, rev the engine in neutral until the tranny temp gets above 160, then check your fluid level and top up if necessary.

I found that the cooling system on my 24 made that process take more than twice as long as it did for my 22, the fan kicks on very quickly.

Why so little?
Passing 44,000 miles today and only bought it at the end of April.
i bought the truck just little over a year ago. its 30k today.

my 21 had 101k on it by mid 2024.

all depends on how much sxs and atv riding im doing during the year.
