So I took my truck, my first ever new truck to the dealer yesterday for a oil change. I decided today to check the oil and there is just a spec on the tip of the stick. I’m not happy. They told me to bring it in. I said F NO, I’m not driving it anywhere. So someone is currently coming to my house now to add oil. I plan to video the event just to cover my ass. What should I do? Is there any extra wear to the engine or turbo? It kept oil pressure but if it’s designed to have 12 quarts then 9-10 prolly isn’t great
 
Most likely it doesn't have enough oil, but here are some basics to check.

Did you measure on a level surface? Even if the surface looks level to the eye, it may not be level relative to the earth.

Did you measure the oil with the engine off?
 
It was two quarts low. Claim a new guy thought the jugs were 5 quarts instead of 4. Apparently they don’t pull sticks to check. And i checked the level in the garage. It’s flat.

I’m obviously not that type of person, but these trucks have 15,000 mile oil change intervals, someone else could have drove that whole time and never checked it. Long interval to be 2 quarts low. I wouldn’t think it would be that unlikely, to not check a new truck. I wouldn’t pay another man to touch my truck for basic service I can do for this exact reason, I got 2 free oil changes when I got the truck is the only reason I took it in the first place. They took the time to supposedly do a 20 point check, and I had my tires aired down to 60 psi, and they made sure to air them all up to 70, which was a little irritating but just couldn’t find the time to check the oil stick to confirm oil level.

Makes a person want to go to the shop and put a sign on the air hose WHEN AIRING UP COSTOMERS TIRES FOR NO APPERENT REASON PULL OUT DIPSTICK AND LOOK AT IT!!! :rolleyes:
 
Its because of stories like this that I do not trust others to do my oil changes. Yikes! My dealership offered me a free 1st oil change, certainly just to get me back there. I haven't decided if I will take them up on it, but if I do, I'll be sure to check my levels before I leave.
 
I left the oil out of a customers car once(1997). I shall hang my head in shame now:(
 
Time is money, money is time. They get paid a flat rate for an oil change and if they can get 2 oil changes done in the time allotted for one, BONUS.
 
It makes you wonder if they are changing the filter.... If they can't put enough oil in what you think they are changing the filter that's the hard part . I put a mark with a sharpie on the filter so I can make sure a new one is put on
 
I had to drive down to Florida last week to attend to some family matters, and while down there, decided to get the oil changed at a local shop. I was allowed to watch the guys do the deed and, luckily, they were knowledgeable about how much oil was required to be in the truck. Just in case, however, I pulled out the manual and it agreed with what they had on their screen. They did a great job and were very organized and clean. In the future, I will do my own oil changes, but wanted to get it done before the 800+ mile trip back to Indiana.

On another note - the truck drove like a dream! Man, I am glad I made the decision to go with a Ram this time!

Edit - sorry @jared43758 - I kinda hijacked your thread. My point was - I was able to watch them change the oil and ensure they did it right.

And if you discover they have not changed your filter, yet you were charged for it, do you file charges? Theft by fraud? I suppose it is peace of mind, but its just another reason I do my own work as much as possible.
