Adding work lights to headache rack

I’ve read a lot about adding bed lights and using the power from the cargo light but I’m looking for something different.

My rig is a 2024 3500 big horn with a flatbed. I want to add work lights to the headache rack and I’d like to avoid adding an addition switch to the dash to run them. I was wondering if I could tie them into the cargo light switch and utilize it to activate the work lights.

I don’t want them to come on just because I unlock or open the truck doors.

I read somewhere that the extra power draw might cause some electrical control module to fail if I wired to the cargo light system.

Looking for some advice (oh, I also don’t have a series of auxiliary switches to hook to)

I don’t know the factory limitations on the power draw might be, but you could always use a relay. It would drawing power directly from the battery and just use the factory wiring as a switch.

Another option would be to use a separate switching system like auxbeam, switch pro, etc. this draw power directly from the battery have their own switches and you won’t have to splice into any of the factory wiring.

There is a company called "Trigger Controller" that uses a remote to turn on the lights. I did the same thing on my headache rack and just use a key FOB to turn them on. I actually wired in another aux battery in the flatbeds boxes and run it off that.

Than you, I’ll look into that
