Sorry if this has been asked before. I tried the search and wasn't able to find an answer. I'd like to know if it is possible to relatively easily add the proximity unlock door handles (and associated hardware) to my truck.
It is currently keyless fob with the push button start.

it's discussed indepth on the 5th gen 1/2 ton forum. I dont have the link on me right now. but i added it to mine by following it

EDIT

Thank you for this. I'm 20 pages in to that thread and, so far, it does look like it is able to be done relatively cheaply.

This is actually the better thread and details the HD Ram install in posts 9 & 10. I can supply the door harnesses that are needed.

Thank you! That's exactly what I was looking for. I'll probably order all the door handles and stuff this week and reach out to you when I'm ready for the harnesses.

ive been looking at the passive entry kit from Nismopar for sometime now but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Post up if you do the kit :)

I did this mod by ordering the OEM door handles and Jimmy's wiring kit. I love it. Jimmy's wiring kits make it relatively painless.

I have a 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie with this function - but it's always bugged me that it only works on the FRONT doors.
I have a 2022 Ram 3500 on order!
Has anyone done this with the REAR doors? Would the FRONT handles fit on the REAR doors, for an HD truck?

Yes, and yes. You need to modify the the handle a little bit for the rear driver side door, since the driver side passive entry handle only comes with a key hole in it. You would do one of two things:
1) If your truck already has body colored door handles, or body colored with chrome, you would buy a driver side passive entry handle, and remove the handle from the handle base, and install it in your existing rear driver side door handle base.
2) If your truck has the black plastic textured door handles, you would buy a passenger side passive entry door handle to use for the rear driver side. Then, since the door release flapper will be upside down, you would remove the flapper from one of the old driver side handles, and install it in the correct orientation on the new handle.

Might be hitting you for those harnesses as well...lol

Hey @Jimmy07 , what is needed to add the passive entry to the rear doors?

I continually find this to be an annoyance when I need to just access the rear doors.

Just the handles(bases) or is there a wiring harness needed? You can shoot me a PM on the harness if needed. Thx.

I forgot about this; at the beginning of year i had ordered the oem handles and antennas but most of my order was cancelled due to backorder. So ill have to reorder the door handle and rear antenna; then jimmy's kit.

I would love to do this also, if someone could do a write up on how to add passive entry to the rear doors if you already have it in the front, that would be awesome. Couldn’t tell you how many times I have grabbed the rear door to put something back there just to find the rear locked…

You would buy two passenger side proximity handles. You can’t use a driver side proximity handle on the rear because it has a key hole in it. Since you’ll be mounting a passenger side handle on the driver side rear door, the release flap will be upside down. So, you would remove the flap from your current driver side rear handle, and install it in the correct spot on the new passenger proximity handle.

Then, you would run this custom wiring kit to connect the rear door handles to the front door handle wires located under the driver and passenger side front door sills. 8F71ED2C-FE18-4F08-8B7A-8950B32FA3E2.jpeg

Perfect, thank you for this, I will definitely have to get the handles ordered. Once I get them I will get ahold of you for the harnesses!!

Great, this is another thing I'm 100% going to do, because it's crazy how often this minor annoyance gets me. Owned the truck for over 2 years and still try and open a locked rear door at least once a week.

I was being careless, not paying attention and didn’t track which side was brown and which side with white on the driver side door harness on an HD truck. Can anyone tell me if Brown goes on 5D side or 4C side of the connector?

Has anyone bought and tried the Nismopar kit? I'm interested BUT my dealership will not add any sales codes because they are D!CK$. OR if anyone has installed and used an aftermarket programmer please let me know!! very interested.

Here’s a write-up I did linked below that has all the info you need to add passive entry yourself. The dealership can’t do anything about adding the sales code because Ram stopped making it available to add after the fact.
Get a hold of me for the wiring, it’ll save a good chunk of money compared to using the nismopar kit.
