Adding front camera

Anyone done it? And how did it work out?
Either the camerasource kit or with the naviks camera interface using your own camera.

I setup the Naviks unit on my 2022. Initially installed just the front cam so I can see what is going on right in front of the bumper. Mounted a camera right between the legs of the “A” in “RAM”. Great for parking in tight spaces or off road use. Used one of the Aux switches to trigger the camera display.

The Naviks box also supports blinker cameras and rear cam and HDMI input. I also setup blinker cameras, which trigger off the CAN bus. They work well but are not as useful as I thought they would be.

The Naviks unit would stop working and need a power cycle every 2 months or so. I ended up using another one of my AUX switches to let me turn the unit on and off so I can reset it without pulling the dash apart and pulling the Naviks power plug.

Install was a little tricky due to poor Naviks documentation and the challenge of finding a good place to put the box.

Works good though. Gets the job done.

Would I do it again? Yes

Thank you for the time to write out that reply. I ordered the camera source kit. All I am wanting to utilize for now is the front camera. If I don't do the license plate mount I will probably mount it on the underside of my Randy Ellis light bar. There is a flat surface there on a LED bar adapter. I am hoping I don't have your need to power cycle the naviks, but good to know what I need to do if it does. Expensive yes, but there has been about a half dozen times in the last three months when I was saying to myself "Dang, I wish I had a front camera right now".

If you take a close look at the pictures of the Camera Source kit, the box says Naviks on it and the box looks the same. Same little remote too.
Probably the same thing. Except Camera Source kit comes with a camera.

Yea I probably could have bought the interface from naviks and shopped a camera from the 100s on amazon. I figure with the full kit I will know the camera is right for it and I had a coupon code as well so I would not have saved all that much anyway. The camera kit arrives tomorrow, but I may not install it right away. I am considering a paragoptics LED kit to upgrade my ambient lighting to something that can actually be seen so I might wait so I can install both at the same time while my dash is apart.
