Added Factory Tow Mirrors to 2020, can AlfaOBD add the sales code or is a dealer trip required? = Solved

Subscribed as a placeholder. I need to read this thread.

Three different dealers have told me I could not add tow mirrors to my 2019 tradesman.

Brutal ,Eatonpcat and Late to the party. I would like to thank all of you for your help. I purchased all of the needed items. Now it's off to you tube!

Full disclosure on the mirror parts I ordered for my 2020 Tradesman, I have FCA StarParts account access, so I searched for a new 2020 for sale that had the mirrors I wanted and used the VIN to look up the parts myslef. That I can do. AlfaOBD, I'll have to learn.

Update on my 2019 Tradesman 2500 tow mirror installation. Installed last evening, very straight forward and harness plugged in fine. Part number I was sold at my dealer is 82214909AF. I have not yet had the sales codes added and was surprised to find that the power mirrors do not adjust and the temperature display reads --. A few miles into the test drive I got a check engine light as well. Calling the dealer this morning for an appointment to get the sales codes added. Hope this is not a bad omen...…..

Which mirrors did you have before and what were all of their features, and which mirrors do you have now with all of their features? You might have to configure the temp sensor location differently in the BCM.

Jimmy, I had the standard power adjust, heated, manual fold mirrors. The new towing mirrors have the same, plus the puddle and turn signal lights. Much appreciate your advice!

Yarnellm,
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that's the incorrect part # for a 2019-20 HD 2500 / 3500.
If everything plugged in, then it's likely that the mirror harness or module pin out is different.
Most of the parts counter guys won't take the time to sort out what is actually needed.

Edit:
I did a quick lookup on that part # and its applications: You got mirrors that fit 2015-18 1500/2500/3500 and 2019-20 1500.

^^^This right here- wrong mirrors ^^^
The wiring circuits are all the same and present, they are just in different locations in the two connectors that plug into the door module. If you don’t want to go through the hassle of returning them, I can tell you how to rearrange the wires in the two connectors to get them to work just like factory. Of course, you will still need to enable some features in the BCM.

SLR, thank you even for the bad news! Jimmy, please do give me the instructions to reconfigure the wires in the connectors. I am assuming there is not a part number specific to my 2019 2500? Nonetheless, I think it would be simpler to reconfigure the wiring to the connectors at this point. Thank you both so much.

Yarnellm, yes, there's a mirror part # specific to your truck (the ones I put on mine as well, unless you want to add power fold or chrome trim on them). For mine, I bought the individual parts needed. Your earlier model part # shows as a kit with all parts included, which Mopar doesn't currently offer for a '19-20.

Like Jimmy07 said though, it may be easier to just swap out pins in the mirror harness connectors if the door modules are compatible.

Out of curiosity, could you post a picture of how the mirrors look / fit on your truck door? I'm curious how they compare to the '19-20 ones I put on mine, wondering if the only difference is the wiring harness pin out. If that's the only difference and it can be overcome, it may be a great way to have tow mirrors available under one part #.

SLR, yes I can post a picture shortly. Everything fit perfectly, including the harness support pins and connectors into the door modules.

Ok. Let me get my notes, and I’ll post what you need to do in a little bit.

Here’s how you would rearrange the wires. The left column refers to the tow mirrors you have, so substitute that for when it references GM style mirror. The list represents all possible circuits, so if you don’t have a particular wire from the list, just skip it.

This is how the mirror connector covers are removed, and shows the identifying numbers for the wire positions-

I suggest you write down all the current wire colors, and where they are at currently, in case something gets mixed up when you move wires, we can start from scratch.

Jimmy07, I have a 2019 tradesman that came equipped with power tow mirrors w/ manual fold and I would like to replace them with tow mirrors with the power fold feature.
Is it a plug and play swap or will they need to be enlivened with an Alfa OBD?

Thank you again Jimmy for the help! Hopefully the door module will be correct.

I have a 2019 2500 tradsman that i upgraded to power fold mirrors. The only way I was able to accomplish this was getting the mirrors (I opted for chrome) door modules and door switch through Infotainment. They supply the chip to plug in to "teach" the truck to operate the mirrors. Two words of caution however. #1 - the instructions do not mention having to use the supplied jumper to temporarily bypas the security module to allow programming. #2 - I found their customer service to be the worst ever. The upgrade works like a charm finally. And this way of upgrading does not void the warranty as altering the harness will. My dealership was happy to do the install for me in case any system crashes occured. I am mechanical apt but not so much with tech. All the pieces are OEM from Mopar.

You also need the door modules, because your current ones are not capable of power fold, and the master driver side door switch that has the power fold button. You will have to use AlfaOBD to enable the power fold feature. Do not go through infotainment to get the kit, unless you like spending more money than you have to. Just get the individual parts from a mopar supplier, such as bamwholesale. You’ll probably have good luck sourcing everything from car-part from wrecked trucks.

Shoeman, good to know you got the results you were looking for! I am not looking for power folding, I just want oem tow mirrors with power adjustability, heat and the puddle/turn signal lights to work. Hoping with Jimmy's expert advice this will work out for my truck. I will report the findings after my dealer appointment for flashing on Monday.
