Hello all. I’m wanting to put remote start on my 24 Bighorn. Thing is I’m not the guy to do all the computer stuff! So I had it at the dealer for some warranty work and asked about them doing it. They told me that they couldn’t find anything for that. Now it seems to me that they should be able to program the fobs and turn it on. So my question is this what do I need to tell them on how to do this? I’m not going aftermarket or doing the alphaobd or the likes…. So any help is greatly appreciated!

They should be able to add it. when you pop your hood do you get a hood ajar warning on your dash?

Yes I do.
That means you don’t need to add any hardware other than the new fobs. If your anti alpha and jscan then you need to find a dealer that can enable the function and program the fobs ( the correct fob just needs to be programmed to your truck nothing special).

Thank you! That is what I was thinking!

What do you change with alpha/jscan? I might have to lead them through it or at least point them in the right direction…..

The dealer can only add sales codes. If their system doesn’t show the code as available to add for your truck then they won’t be able to do anything. They don’t have software like AlfaOBD or JScan where you can make any change without restrictions.

I’m not sure what sales codes are. But it doesn’t make sense to me that I could download something and do this but the dealer can’t…

Every option has a sales code. Ram has decided some of those options can be added by a dealer after the initial sale. The dealer can enter your truck’s VIN in their system and it shows them what options (sales codes) can be added. They then pick a sales code, add it to your truck in their system computer, and then update the software on your truck to enable the option. Each sales code in the computer has certain settings that it sets. This is the only way they can make configuration changes.

AlfaOBD and JScan enable you to change any setting in the trucks computer, with no care about sales codes or anything else. This is why you can make changes that the dealer can’t.

There is a mopar add on kit that they sell which has the 2 fobs and a hood latch so I believe they can add it to any truck without needing a sales code. I know you can do it with a snap on scanner too.

This kit works perfectly for me.
There's no need to add any wiring or parts to the 2019+ trucks. As long as a truck has the hood ajar switch all it needs is a change in AlfaOBD or JScan and some new key fobs. That kit is not necessary.

The accessory kit instructions for the dealer list a sales code to add. Here's the one for the remote start kit:

I figured they did. But I can’t seem to find it for a 24 bighorn. Any idea what the actual name or number is on this kit?

The kit for previous years would work on your ‘24 as well, but it’s a lot of money for parts you don’t need. You just need the key fobs, a security gateway bypass, and OBD2 dongle, and AlfaOBD or JScan. The will cost you a fraction of the kit cost, and you’ll be able to do other things as well.

I understand that! The what I was told by the dealer today was they can’t get the kit for this truck. And they will not install anything on it that they can’t get from mopar. So either I have to live with it or go the alpha way! And yes it will affect the warranty! And that’s the primary reason for this thread.
