'70 Charger Restoration

@NordicNevs and @Kimo7 asked for pictures, so here's what I have of my '70 Charger restoration project so far:

It's currently getting the body work done, there's a lot of rust in the rear half, so we're cutting all of that out and replacing with new sheet metal. Once the body is straight we'll be fitting a Hellcrate 6.2L supercharged engine with a 6-spd manual. Tubular frame and suspension with coil overs in the front, with a 4-link in the back to keep it all on the ground. I'm keeping the dark green interior and painting the outside a dark silver with a greenish tinge. I'm going to try to keep the current wheel sizes and backspacing as I personally like that look a lot better than modern wheels with positive offset.

Wow ! Thanks for sharing. Looks like a great project and you’re well into it. I like the dark green interior and exterior too, glad to hear you’re keeping it. My absolute favorite color is Ivy green.

For anyone interested, more progress. Slow going, but things are starting to come together. Need to modify the transmission tunnel and do some frame stiffening, then we'll be ready for paint and final installation of this combo:

I've been down that path myself - but decided to stick with a 620hp built standard block rather than going to a new LS type motor. Looks like you're doing it right. Enjoy and keep up with providing some pics.....

That's a real nice one. 2nd gen Mopar B-bodies are my favorite, but '66-'67 GTOs are a very close second. Similar styles, great lines with more curves but still the sharpness of the early 60s without yet getting into that 70s roundness. If I had the extra cash for another I'd definitely want a '66 Tri-power convertible, preferably in barrier blue.

It's at Sterling Hot Rods. Covid has certainly mucked with the whole experience in terms of parts availability and timelines, but it's coming along. I'm hoping it's done by next summer. Here's another of it hovering up above the powertrain:

you guys are making me jealous. I have a 71 Chevelle that I am working on (slowly. I won't want to stop driving it) and I am way behind the power curve

Fitted the hood and fenders to see if the engine fits. It does - barely. Next issue was a clearance problem with the oil filter and the steering rack, but thankfully the new TRX necessitated development of a 90 degree filter adapter, so I got one of those. Had to trim the drain on it to clear the sway bar, though. And finally the security system I'm developing - I'm going to create a biometric access control system using a fingerprint scanner and an arduino to control the crank circuit. If your fingerprint isn't enrolled in the system, the relay will not allow the crank signal to pass. My childrens' fingerprints will NOT be enrolled.

If your like me your print wont work 1/2 the time either lol my hands usually to cut up for finger prints to work lol

Haha I hope not. I use a fingerprint reader to unlock my computer all the time and it seems to work just fine so I'm hoping that it translates. I do, however, plan to have a momentary override switch hidden deep inside the dash so if worse comes to worst I can do that.

Wiring and plumbing. Finally got the long lead-time items in, HVAC and radiator, so that's next on the list. The car has a huge nose but when you need to cool an engine, oil, power steering fluid, AC, and a supercharger, it gets crowded fast.
