I have a 2022 RAM 2500 Cummins Larame. I am wondering what gauge wire goes to the back of the truck to the +12 wire (black) in the 7-pin receptacle. If I can pull enough juice through the existing wire to get 10 amps to charge my RV batteries while driving I would be satisfied. I am in stalling a Victron 18 amp DC DC charger in my trailer in order to get adequate voltage to charge my LiFePO batteries.

Your 18A DCDC is going to pull more than 18A from the truck side, and your feed wire needs to be able to support that. The documentation for the Victron should tell you what size wire to use. You can’t plan around the traditional thought of the batteries’ draw being limited by the gauge of the wire. If it’s too small it’ll burn it up.

I’ve been looking at the 12/12-18 Victron and believe it will work on the OEM wiring. The OEM wiring is capable of 21A continuous, and the Victron shouldn’t exceed that.

18A at 87% efficiency is 20.7A.

Please do. I’m considering the 12/12-18 for my AGM’s since the voltage drop really affects charging.
Id be interested to know aswell for my dump trailer

Im no expert but I watch a youtube channel called "Love Your RV" and this guy installed a Renogy 40 amp DC to DC charger. He ran 4 gauge from the engine compartment to the rear bed so not sure what gauge he would use with a 20 amp. Heres the link for entertainment value.

I run the 60A version of that for my RV with 618Ah of LiFePO4 in it. I run it off of 2 AWG, as the manufacturer says to wire the input to handle 150% of the output.
