I have a 2021 RAM 2500, 6.7 Cummins and the 68RFE 6 speed automatic transmission, just coming up on 25,000 miles. I tow, not in tandem, a 5000# boat and a 9000# bumper tow travel trailer. So far I have not had any issues with my transmission. I have added a Doomsday device to the transmission dip stick but have not had the transmission vent tube replaced yet (recall items.) No overheating issues at all, transmission or engine. Would like to keep it that way.

Question for all you tow guys out there. How often are you changing your transmission fluid? Full flush? Or just fluid change?

Change interval per the manual, drain, change filters and refill. (no Flush)

.

Change it as per the manual, and you are not towing heavy so i would not worry about the trans at all

Thanks. I am a preventive maintenance type of owner. New to light truck diesel towing. Like to stay ahead of maintenance on my rigs.

To be honest as a mechanic for many years the only person that benefits from early oil/fluid changes is the oil manufacture. If you follow the maintenance schedule thats in the owners manual you will be in great shape for years to come.

Follow the published specs.

I would also drop the doomsday device for the recall repair. ATS is making money off paranoid owners. The OEM fix is good.

Find a different dealer, parts for this issue are available.
Not everyone has more than one dealer to choose from without driving hours. Our local dealer has bought up the 2 or 3 other dealerships within 2 to 3 hours of me except for one about 1-1/2 hours south. If this was a critical fix, I would use that dealer and just do the 3+ hour round trip.
