6'4" Tonneau covers w/o rambox

The 6'4" bed for the 2019 Ram 1500 and 2019 Ram 2500/3500 are not the same. The HD bed is wider even though the length is the same. I have a leftover tonneau cover from my 2019 1500 and it does not fit my 2019 3500.
Thank you. I assume the 2019 you had was new bodystyle for the Ram 1500?

Love my Gator SR1 cover!!!!! I had the exact same SR1 cover on my 2014 Ram 1500 for 5 years and they let me keep it so I could give it to my son for his 2016 1500. I have not been sorry with this one either, picked my truck up right before thanksgiving in 2019 and it is performing flawless! Best $300 dollars spent! I bought the one with the 5 year warranty and self adjusting tensioners

I like the RAM tonneau cover, folds easy and can be removed in seconds

I am running a Truxedo Deuce. It is a soft roll-up, but the front (cab end) also folds open for easy access to whatever slides all the way to the front of the box. So far it has worked well for me. Just a little leaking as I trimmed the foam block seals at the front of the rails, they were preventing the fold open section from closing tight and I trimmed too much off on the one side.

Peragon Tonneau Cover. Best hard cover I have ever seen and I have owned them all except Diamondback. American Made. Excellent customer service. Nice finish.

I’ve had several of both soft roll up and hard tri-fold covers, my preference is for the roll up. You can’t go wrong with the Truxedo LoPro for about $450 and it’s easy to install. I pasted a link from YouTube below that highlights the differences between roll ups and tri-folds. Think about what you want the cover to do performance wise before purchasing. My goal is to keep stuff dry, there is no real security advantage to a hard cover or tri-fold. They can all be defeated if a criminal is determined to get in. If I have something valuable I’m taking it inside, out of the truck.

I had a bad ownership experience with the BakFlip G2. I ordered the original off Amazon and they replaced it 3 times, that’s right 3 times. The 4th cover was still on the truck when I traded it and it was also warped. It was all the rage on the internet when I originally bought it but it ended up being a dud. It leaked like crazy into the bed and warped the panels due to water intrusion at the joints. The interior of the panels are styrofoam and the water has nowhere to go so it gets heavy and warps. BAK industries customer service is phenomenal, no pushback, Dorene and I got to be on a first name basis. She’s a very nice lady. Even though they replaced each one it got old having to keep doing it. I originally thought it was a bad batch of aluminum but that’s not the case. My guy at the truck shop said they are a good company but the G2 was a fail. They have allegedly improved newer versions but in my opinion they’re too pricey and obscure your vision out of the back window if you fold it up. I pasted pics below of the ripple effect on each panel. BAK asked for pics showing the problem as proof. They also ask for you to take a hammer to the old one and knock holes in it and send pics as proof you complied. I really wish it would’ve worked, it looked really nice on the truck. The Truxedo LoPro looks great too for half the cost. There are other soft roll ups out there too I just have good luck with the Truxedo. Whatever you get I would recommend using Turtle Wax Ice Seal & Shine as soon as you install it to keep the dust, dirt and road grime from settling in on it. That stuff is amazing.

Good luck with your decision.

I like that cover. I was worried it would get in the way of the 5th wheel when folding it but when I watched the video on paragon, it just slides to the rear and folded from there. Pretty slick.

I was looking at a Truxedo tool box that fits under a tonneau (roll up or folding) that looked pretty sweet. I like the fact you can hide the tool box under the cover from prying eyes. Might consider something along those lines when I get my truck.

Works great with my Demco. Demco is one of the bigger bulkier hitches I have seen as well. Should have no problems.

It’s a great looking cover, very sleek, does it leak? Looks like there’s water in the middle pic under the chock blocks and tie downs.

Leaks very little around the tailgate corners in heavy rains but I have also not installed the tailgate seal that was provided. The water in the pictures is because the straps were soaking wet. And the bucket is my wash bucket with water in it.

@Kimo7 I installed a TruXedo Lo Pro on my 2019 3500 short bed. I really like it. It was easy to install, and it is very easy to cover and uncover the bed. I can access my in-bed toolbox when the cover is rolled up. It is lightweight and doesn't seem to make any weird noises at high speed.

There are a few things that aren't perfect:
  • The rubber gaskets at the front and rear are slightly warped as they came from the factory, so the cover doesn't make a great seal with the front and rear bed rails. The temperature is currently in the 40's and 50's where I live. When it warms up a bit, I'm hoping the rubber gasket will straighten out and make a better seal. I may use a heat gun on a low setting to encourage the rubber to conform. The kit came with some weatherstrip, but the instructions say not to install it on beds with a spray-in bed liner which my truck has.
  • When the tonneau is covering the bed, I haven't found a way to open and close the tailgate without releasing the tonneau cover. This is a minor inconvenience, but I suspect the tonneau latch may wear out after many years of opening/closing the tailgate. It also makes it more difficult for my wife to open/close the tailgate because it takes a good bit of strength to latch the tonneau cover.
Overall, it is a great product.

Edit: I thought I had to close the tonneau cover before closing the tailgate, but @MikeXM showed me the manual which says to do it in the opposite order.

thestuarts - congrats on making the purchase. Post some pics of it installed, I’m anxious to see how it looks. You are correct with warmer weather and time the gaskets will flatten out. There should have also been a roll of one side adhesive foam tape included that goes underneath the head at the front of the cover - closest to back of cab area. That will help with your seal. Agreed it is a minor inconvenience to have to pop the release before closing the tailgate each time but that’s how it’s engineered to keep the seal on top of the tailgate so the water sheds off. You have to do the same with most any cover also. I predict you will be very happy with the purchase as it performs over time. Don’t forget the Turtle Wax Seal & Shine - it’ll keep it looking new and make it shed water like crazy. You can search on YouTube to see all the testing on that product - nothing short of amazing. You also use it on the plastic trim on top of the tailgate and sides where the cover meets, it won’t discolor the plastic. I use it all over the truck, all surfaces, door jams etc even the wheels. Great product that inexpensive and without equal right now.

That's the weatherstrip I mentioned in my review. The installation instructions say something like, "Don't install the weatherstrip if you have a bed liner." My truck has a bed liner, so I didn't install the weatherstrip. I suspect they recommend not installing the weatherstrip with a bed liner because it won't stick to the rough surface, but I mage give it a try anyway.

I don't understand. I also have a Lo Pro on my current truck. How can you open the tonneau before the tailgate? It is simply not possible on mine. So yeah, my tailgate close and open just fine with the tonneau installed and closed. Are you sure it is correctly installed?

Also, manual specifically says: Always close cover before closing tailgate.
Looks like yours is installed too low.

Edit: I want to add that my next one will be a Truxedo X15, just because this one can be latched closed without opening the tailgate, a function that I will use for sure. The Lo Pro is very hard to almost impossible to close without opening the tailgate. I really don't understand how you can do that!

Sorry, my description was unclear.

I can open the tailgate without unlatching the tonneau cover, but I thought I had to close the tailgate before latching the tonneau so the rubber gasket would sit on top of the tailgate.

I just checked the manual. As you indicated, the manual does state, "Always close cover before closing tailgate." The manual even has a picture that shows the rubber gasket on the *inside* of the tailgate when everything is installed correctly. I was wrong, thanks!

The manual and videos do depict the gasket inside of the tailgate when closed. The guys at Trick Trucks where I bought it, do installs for a living said not to do that, the gasket inside will lead the water to drain into the bed and along the gaps at the corners rather than deflecting to outside. Either way I think you’re ok. I leave mine outside based on what I think works best. We’ve had an extended period of rain here and I washed it yesterday on the first nice day we’ve had in a long time, no water intrusion at all since installing.
