I understand that the 2 are the same engines with different transmission options and different tune/turbo (I think) on the HO generating the higher torque and HP. Aside from the higher towing numbers with the 3500 - is there a major difference in the everyday driving performance of the HO over the regular. I am torn between the 2500 and 3500. My biggest trailer is a 14.5k bumper pull - my current 2500 does fine, but I have never been impressed with its performance for everyday driving (Im comparing this to my old 6.7 Powerstroke)
 
I would definitely go HO, even if just to get the Aisin.

I agree on the Aisin. I'm not sure why Ram doesn't make it a standard on all HD models. Can you tell the difference between the 2 engines performance wise when you are not towing? The difference in my builds between a 2500 and 3500 is $3k.
 
I would have to believe that the difference in torque would be noticeable even empty, bearing in mind that the Cummins is a slow turning workhorse engine, not a V-8 winder like the other guys. They may not win the stoplight derby, but there is nothing more satisfying than that "old tractor rmotor" just loafing along with a heavy load in tow. Six-in-a-row, the only way to tow!
 
I think you have to get 3500 DRW to get high output with aisin. Don’t think it’s avail on 3500 SRW if that is what you are considering.
 
Actually I looked it up and I stand corrected... you can get high output in SRW 3500, sorry.
 
I have a 3500 on order. It has the HO with the Aisin and it is a SRW. I don’t know yet it it has the 3.42 or 3.73 axles. I have found conflicting information on this.
 
I just heard back from my dealer. He contacted his factory rep and was told all Ram HDs for 2019 will have 3.73 as standard equipment. No more 3.42. When I can get a build sheet or the window sticker maybe I can confirm. The 2019 towing and payload chatted I now have also say 3.73.

That's good news!
 
Yes across the line, 3.73 is standard gas/diesel 2500/3500. 4.10 is the option. But only gas/2500/3500 and diesel/3500/dually.

And Powerwagon is standard 4.10

I wonder why RAM isn’t offering the 4.10 option on the diesel 2500/3500 SRW?
