6.7 Engine Air Filter Confusion

Has anyone ever stripped out 1 of the air filter box lid screws and if so how did you fix it ?

I don't remember how they are threaded. Is it a nutsert from the bottom? I've fixed a couple on other trucks with JB Weld to hold the threaded piece in. On another if I recall correctly, I used a JB Weld or similar product and tapped it after hardening

It’s a self tapping screw in plastic. All of the other screws tighten down to a stop but 1 just doesn’t get tight like the other ones.

Can you run a zip tie through one side of the hole? Will give the screw more to bite on temporarily till you come up with something else. I don’t remember exactly what it looks like and I’m not by my truck.

That’s what I did. I cut just the end off of the zip tie and and had to fold it lengthwise with a pair of pliers, then shoved it down in the hole and it got really tight. I learned a trick to putting the screws back in. Turn them counter clockwise until you feel them drop down then tighten.
That way it’s not cutting new threads every time.

Is this still an issue? I just grabbed an AB filter from my dealer (Red Deer, Alberta). Was $60CAD IIRC.

Parts desk said they used the glue strip version for a short time. They were finding the strips had dried out and were laying in the bottom of the airbox when the trucks came in next time. They switched back to the AB version when supply came back.

I use the Fleetguard AF-27684 its the only filter I use, I can buy it cheaper than Mopar brand filter

Either the Mopar 53034051AB or Fleetguard AF27684 is fine. Both are the same filter and are 100% the filter these trucks should have.

The “glue strip” 68517554AA was never the correct air filter for these trucks, and shouldn’t have been used. But due to a mistake in the Mopar parts network, the system incorrectly was telling dealers to sub that filter in place of the AA.

Using the wrong air filter in a 2019+ 6.7 truck is a fast way to get yourself into issues. Ram changed some things with the 19+ trucks when it comes to the intake, sensors, MAF, values etc. Not exactly sure what, but they are far more susceptible to issues from an inferior air filter (or aftermarket CAI) than previous generations of the 6.7.

Use hand tools instead of a battery operated drill and that won’t happen.
