6.7 Engine Air Filter Confusion

Well in my 22 I have only used the Fleetguard AF 27684 air filter without any problems, I have found that the Fleetguard is cheaper than OEM Mopar and I don't have to worry if they made some stupid changes to it that in time will need another revision to drive everyone crazy...

If I’m not mistaken, they (FleetGuard) did change the AF27684 filter at one time but went back to the original design after some of us complained to NashNative a representative for FleetGuard. I think it was mostly supply chain issues but for whatever reason(s) they went back to the original. I have been using the FleetGuard filter ever since the first change and will attempt to do so from now on. I have 2 new Mopar AB filters on the shelf but have been biased towards the FleetGuard after someone had issues with the Mopar filter.

I just skimmed this thread. So y'all are saying the filter media with glue strips doesn't play nice with the MAF sensor on the truck? Really? Why would that be?

It’s a conundrum for sure. The AF 27684 is what is in mine and it’s working. That’s the one I’ll use as long as I can get them.
I bought both, the regular Fleetguard I’ve been running and the updated mopar. I should have them both Thursday.
Edit: I’m gonna try em both, although the new filter I just swapped in was my usual Fleetguard, I’m gonna try another one. Hopefully I get some relief with one of those. I will update.

Very interesting. What he says makes sense and he sure says it like he is sure it is correct. But I have not had any issues at all so far with the "oiled" filter without the glue strips. I wonder if the "oiled" filter WITH the glue strips was just too much, The glue strips did not allow flexibility in the filter so air flow was reduced somewhat. That combined with the "oil" caused a lot of issues maybe. But the "oiled" filter WITHOUT the glue strips perhaps allowed enough air flow so that the oil in the filter did not cause an issue. This is all speculation on my part of course but it is weird how if the oil was the problem, then why have most been able to run the oiled filters without the strips and not have any issues? Did the glue strips on the oiled filter caused the air to draw through more of the filter material, pulling out some oil that then coated the sensors? But once the glue strips were removed that allowed better air flow and less oil to be pulled out of the filter. Who knows!!??
Beats me, I never had an issue with the wrong “aa” gas truck filter back when that was approved back when nothing else was available during covid.

It does not make sense that it would. There is the same amount of filter media, the lack of the pleats ability to move around does not change that.
