Has anyone had a serpentine belt failure? Out of nowhere my belt just popped off while driving... PS and PB gone while taking an overpass exit. Temps did climb but switched heater on and kept a 3/4 temp as dealership was 3 miles....drove in. No cluster indication or warning. I know I heard of this in the past, but thought those issues were resolved.

That’s not a common issue. You probably lost tension I imagine or did the belt physically break?

Tensioner likely weak causing the belt issues i have seen it before

Or tensioner or idler bearings smoked.

Since you don't indicate what year your truck is that could possibly help us provide better advice, there is a TSB for the harmonic balancer "squeak/chirp" 19-20 trucks TSB 09-009-21.

There are differences between the years 19-present so it's best to include that info in your sig and/or post.

Did you ever find out what threw the belt? Mine did the same on my 22. Dealer checked everything. did not find any problem. I have driven it about 100 miles so far and no problem. Wondering if I need to change tensioner.

Sorry hadn't checked in a bit. Upon inspection by the tech he believes the belt was not fully seated and was riding half on. wear only on one side and the other was practically new.

FWIW, without the belt running the heater won't have any effect on coolant temps.

Its wishful thinking though lol. One thing duramax did well was a gear driven coolant pump!

It did help when I blew a belt on a 22RE once, since the fan was connected to the water pump I got a little pumping action if I kept the speed up (as much as a 22RE and 35's could muster) for the few miles I had to drive it.

Thats fair but the days of sensible engineering are gone
