6.4 power

I picked up a 2500 6.4 limited with 3.73 last week. I traded my 2017 5.7 limited on this one. I took the pedal commander out of my 5.7 seeing as it crossed over to my new truck. I drove 400km from the coast up and over Mtn passes. It was then that I pulled over, aired down my tires from 82 psi to what the door sticker said, 65/70 psi. Installed the PC and drove another 700km home. What a difference, I prefer this truck over the 5.7. Really wants to pull in sport 2 setting. I know it doesn’t add any power but it sure feels like another 50-60 hp. I also like the way this 8spd shifts vs my old truck.

Best part is, I put 2498 lbs of flooring in the bed on Friday and with the air suspension it rode like a dream. I don’t find it underpowered at all, for a 7-10k brick depending on payload.
Drop the air pressure down to a respectable 45 to 50 PSI for a unloaded truck and it will ride even better.
I run 45/37 on mine with 35" BFGs.

I had a 2014 Ram sport 5.7 Hemi that was the quickest, fastest and drove like a sports car on glue, Raced regularly and only ever got beat once by a ford that I believe may have had a turbo. Anyway recently traded it in for a 2021 2500 Black 6.4. I've never had a 2500 so I have nothing to compare it to but this truck to me is a dog. My 5.7 would eat it up. Mine is stock except 35x12.50 20 in rims, that are the exact same height as the stock wheels and tires. Am I asking to much out of the 2500 because of the more weight it needs to carry. 8 speed Limited edition. Don't beat me up, just curious if I need a tuner to improve, seems very sluggish at shift points. I'm use to shifting harder into the next gear. Average about 11.5 mpg in town Az.
I test drove a 2020 2500 BH 4wd 6.4/3.73, while I had a 2019 BH 1500 4wd CCSB 5.7/3.92. I said the same thing, this 6.4 is a dog. 2 years later I own a 2500 6.4/3.73.

Exactly, the 2500 6.4 is not the same as the Charger/Jeep SRT/Etc 392 Apache. In that guise it makes 470hp/470ft-lbs and the engine/8spd ZF tranny is programmed for speed and acceleration in a higher RPM range, our HD 6.4 is only 410hp/429ft-lbs but is supposedly tuned for better MPG and hauling power in a lower RPM range... ;)

This is it. I was going to put these numbers together, but @JC nailed it. And so have some of the other members.

The 6.4 HD engine is a different beast from the “392” in a Charger etc.

I’ve had my truck for 21 days now. I’m still stoked on the fit and finish of it. I enjoy how it drives, minus the touchy steering but I’m getting used to it.

I keep in mind how much more capable it is than my 17 1500 Limited I traded off. It’s heavier but still has close to the same ride. With the pedal commander and sport 2 I don’t feel it lacks anything. I’d say put a throttle box on it and see how you feel.

I’ve got the 3.73’s and felt it was soft on the first 400 km’s. I found I really had to put my foot into it to get it to move. I keep cruise set at 110 on the highway and avg about 15mpg with mixed city. All in all about 100 km (63 mi) less per tank vs my 1500 with 3.92’s.

Weather is turning for the better so it will be time to see what it does in the back country mountain roads and 2 track highways with my 10k lb TT. The improved ride and stability is where my hopes lie and the reason I dumped the 1500.

The thing I find the most lacking is the paint job. I put 2 coats TW ceramic coat on it this weekend and it shines. However, it’s almost like ripples when I look down the sides or anywhere really. I haven’t looked at other units at the dealer to see if it’s “normal”. Can’t seem to capture it in photos.

All in all, it’s a beautiful truck that stickered at $92k and out the door would’ve been $108k less my trade and discounts. I’d buy it again in a heartbeat.

It's called "orange peel"
Just about every vehicle has it. Except for a few high end ones.
To get rid of it takes some work. Color sand with 2K grit wet sand paper. Once done, finish up with a cut and buff. Then a polish and wax.
I did it on a custom paint job I did on my Harley. Lots of work, but well worth it. Makes it look like wet glass when done right

I like diy and find most things in the realm of my capabilities. Messing with paint isn’t one of them.

I didn’t notice it on the last pearl white I had, but the bright white it is. Maybe the pearl helped hide it.

Would I go to a body shop or a detail type shop to get an estimate on correcting it?

A really good detailer can do it. A body shop who does custom paint can do it as well. Most normal paint jobs and OEM paint jobs dont go that extra step. Probably cost about a grand to get it fixed right.

Wet/Color sanding for orange peel is dangerous on a factory paint job. They cut costs and corners in this area (as apparent by the whole paint job) and did NOT give enough clear coat for any semi-aggressive paint correction actions. You could actually remove all of the clear in a spot if they did too little and you did too much.

So just leave it alone and live with it?

I've been through this on a few cars, mostly GM ones. Through the clear on my TBSS, Camaro turned out pretty good, 300C SRT8 - meh...it's ok.
Yes is the first answer and the cheapest with less risk...embrace FCA.
If you think "No I can't live with it." then color sand either as a DIY or through a reputable body shop with the time to do the work correctly. I would venture a guess if your area is like mine, then the good shops are booked forever out and really like only Insurance jobs for the quick $.
Taking on that work increases the risk of burn through and if you are concerned about the look now, you will really be concerned on that spot impacted.
If you can afford to then fix that, then yep...go for it.
Otherwise you can go with the "excellent and knowledgeable" detail shop that will do everything (maybe even some wet sanding) that they can to fix the issue so that optically, you would not notice it anymore. It may take a few hours/days, but it could wind up better and "livable" .

Should have gotten the optional 4.10 gears. ;)
I ordered a 2021Tradesman, max steel (no longer available) with 4.10s. It came in and I couldnt quite convince myself to trade. Ended up trading for a 2021 BH w 3.73s. The 3.73s probably save me some mpg, not towing particularly heavy.
