Hello,
Has anyone had problems with an adapter fitting the puck system? I purchased a Demco 5th wheel adapter for my 2020 Ram 2500 and it's about 1/4 inch too narrow on the rear. The seller sent me a new one and it's the same. I can't see how the pucks could be off on the truck.
Thanks

There's a TSB for the factory (Curt) hitch to use shim plates between the hitch head and puck legs so there is evidently some variance in the puck locations.

It probably wouldn't hurt to share this with Demco and other hitch makers.

Can't say if there's any wiggle room in the frame attachments, but I seem to recall someone else had issues and the dealer made some adjustments. Honestly don't know if it was frame/puck or this shim kit that fixed it.

That helps thanks. I don't believe I can alter the Demco since it's one piece. They could engineer more adjustment though.

I had the same problem, but it wasn't 1/8, it was less than that. I took a burr and shaved a tiny bit off the silver bars that lock it down and it fits great now.

Wow... If you look at that TSB, there can be as much as 5/8" variation in holes center to center distance. How can there be so much error? They eyeball them?

Thanks, that's what I decided to do. It will be the gold ones on mine.

Looking at my truck it doesn't seem like they could be much different than where they are. They line up with the holes in the box perfectly.

Mine didn't line up, but my Curt A25 hitch fit perfectly. The Curt legs and head (and brace) are bolt together and the instructions are clear about putting it into the pucks loose, then tightening all bolts. Once I did that, it slips right in and out easy-peasy.

That said, my bed and cab were both misaligned and required correction.

Yes the Demco also states to leave it loose until you have it installed. Once it's tightened it can't be removed without force. Then it won't install without disassembly. There is no side to side adjustment on the Demco. I think a small sideways adjustment would correct the problem.

It was a while ago, so it might have been the gold bars. It was the ones on the back.

Mine had to be loose to install as well. I tried it bolted together tight, and no go. Loosened it and went right together.

i had that problem, posted back in june after i bought my 2019 2500 cc shortbed. i bought 2 demcos that fid not fit, my front pucks were 38 3/4 on center, not 39. bought the reese adapter, which is the excact same as oem ram. reese did not fit, got the dealer and hitch adapter mfg involved,i think they are called global horizons. my reese did not fit my truck,it fit on other trucks on the lot. delaer says i need to use the oem,so i bought the oem ram adapter, it fit.

For my 2020 RAM 3500 with the prep package, I purchased the Mopar M25 hitch. I followed the instructions and it is difficult to remove and replace. I guess I will price 1/4 inch sheet metal once I do my measurements. Any suggestions on making my own shims?

the 2500 and 3500 mounts are different. as for the 2500, the pucks are mounted inboard to the frame, shims would make the pucks closer together

The TSB (which is for 2500 and 3500) shows the shims between the hitch mounting legs and the hitch itself. they widen the feet that drop into the underbed truck mounts. They do not show shimming or adjusting the frame mounts under the bed.

I just measured mine as I put the hitch back in for this weekend. I measured at 39 1/16 - 39 1/8. Hard to measure center to center without a pointy stick in the hole. But my hitch went in just fine this time. I did re-adjust it last time I put it in. I had removed it but not reinstalled it since the last adjustment. I am considering buying a plate and installing it on one side anyway. To get everything little tighter. I'd like the swing plates to have a little more resistance closing.

Measure edge to edge and you get center-center...

The shim kit is for the OEM hitch, not the frame mounts. I thought my #2 post was clear on that point.

After subtracting/adding the edge to the center? Depending on if one goes outside edge or inside edge? My cut man complained that he had to cut 1/8 shorter than my measurement as I measured too tight.
