50 Gallon Fuel Tank

I had an installer research this for me and a lot more is needed to add this tank if not from the factory. It made it not cost effect so I want with the titan
How could adding a factory tank be more involved than an aftermarket tank?

I haven’t seen the difference between the 32 and 50 gallon diesel tanks, but for the Hemi tanks, the 50 gallon tank is about 5” taller, so the fuel pump height would have to reflect that.
When I replaced my 32 gallon tank with a Titan 55 gallon, when removing the fuel pump assembly from the factory tank, it sprung up a few inches. But when I put it into the titan tank, there was barely any extra height with the pump like in the stock tank. It makes me wonder, if one were to put the pump assembly from a 50 gallon factory tank with the after market larger tanks, would we get a more accurate DTE and fuel gauge reading along with alfaobd setting changes to 194 liters. If I had know the possible height difference between the pumps before I did mine, I would have tried to source a factory pump and put it in at the time of the swap.

So I have a 2020 Megacab and getting ready to install the Titan 50 gallon tank with OE sending unit. I chose the Titan over the S&B because the S&B sits few inches lower then the Titan. Question is would I set the fuel tank size to 190 liters (50.19 gallons) instead of the 194 liters (51.25 gallons) for a more accurate needle and DTE reading? Or is the 194 liters setting a sweet spot due to possible the fuel sending units being different between the OE fuel tank options and calculations?

For my 2021 my gauge would only work when set to 194. If I set it to anything different it would just sit at full. Has anyone else had this issue?

Has anyone swap out their 32 gal sending unit for the 50gal oem one that comes with the tank upgrade?

I just did the fuel tank size update on my 2022 Mega Cab with the Titan 50 gallon tank. I tried to set it at 50 gallons (~189.000 liters). The analog fuel gauge immediately went to full as others have reported (my fuel was ”actually” at 3/4 of a tank). I set it 194, slightly more than 50 gallons, and the gauge went to the correct reading….So the news here isn’t new I guess but thought I would confirm for others.

I had a titan 52 gallon tank installed. I asked about distance to empty readings. They told me that they put a tester on it and everything read fine. I stopped and put 35 gallons in. Got in the truck and the distance to E seemed about right. Pulled my camper yesterday so the 10 mpg was still in the system. The question I have is the Empty full gauge called the was at full. Called the installer and was told the gadge had to learn the tank was bigger now. Okay I will roll with that. But, got close to home and thought why don’t I fill the tank all the way up so we know full is full. Well like a dumb ass when the nozzle kicks off I thought well I’ll squeeze more into it. Well the tank vented. About 1/2 gallon then some more when I got home and some more when I put on 20 more miles. Lots of calls with the company that installed. I know better but what gets me it didn’t come out the filler neck. It came out somewhere above tank. The fix from Titian and dealership is run the tank to see ito empty and try it again No problem there but this venting thing is concerning. Any comments would be appreciated

so either the vent hose is not connected or there is another issue

Money is on the vent hose isn't hooked up correctly.

I installed mine in my driveway myself. It wasn't bad at all. I can see how installers might cut corners or be lazy. It's two connections to the fuel pump, one connection for the fill, one connection for the vent, and one connection for the factory vent hose (small one that's ran between two ends of the tank). That's it.

Though I don't see how they could have installed the fuel pump wrong and messed up the gasket maybe?

Just throwing some thoughts your way.

Thanks. Will let you know as this issue progresses

Ok so I will chime in since I had a failure with the tank. Let me start with their support is awesome, they call back, respond to emails and will be on the phone with you. So on our last rv trip from hell since that’s my luck. I got a water in fuel message on the truck. It had been pouring water while driving. I pulled over for both of the filters purged and went on my way no more messages. Coming back started to rain and message came up again. Repeated procedure. Got home safe and sound and decided to rinse the truck and undercarriage as we had been at the beach and there was salt everywhere. Left to the store afterwards and water in fuel comes back on. Drive home cut open and empty bottle and drained filters again and confirmed there was water in fuel. I was trying to rule out a bad sensor. Called titan and took a bunch of pictures and talked through the issue. I have a failed rear vent. Either the vent or the actual point where the vent screws into the tank, the latter is more likely. Here is the bummer. They are sending me out a replacement tank but I have to have the old one dropped and the new one installed. 700 in the lowest quote in labor. I installed the first tank but I am not doing that again as I don’t have a lift at home and have a severe slope in my driveway. Let’s say it wasn’t safe to have the truck jacked up with nothing but a tire chalk holding it from rolling on me. They are asking for me to cut out and send them back the failed section of the tank back to them. I will say they stand behind their product.

There are only a few places it can leak. If it’s at the sending unit that’s easy since when you fill the tank there are 10 gallons above the sending unit seal. As such if it’s full it will leak out the 10 gallons. The fuller tube, only has two connections you can see when you remove the rear wheel well. The vents well there is one in the front and the back. Look at the back vent is parallel to the rear wheel.

I would have hoped they would pay for the labor also if it really is a failure on the tank. I wonder if this has been reported to them before for a warranty replacement. If not and it is a one-time thing, I think they would pick up the labor also. If it is something they have seen a lot, maybe that is why they are only replacing the tank. Of course, it could be as simple as they warranty only the parts, and the customer is left to pick up the tab for the parts failure. I have read a few things in the past year that makes me wonder if Titan customer service has gone downhill a bit. $hitty luck for you for sure. Since I tend to be a worrier, I sometimes I think I should stay away from this forum and be blissfully ignorant of all the possibilities!

700$ to change a tank! Did they offer you some lube before quoting you? That is far from a 700$ job….

As far as your driveway goes just put the truck in 4wd and in park jack up the rear and leave the blocks in front of the rear tires. Then it wont be moving at all and perfectly safe

700 was the low end quote. A ram dealer near me wanted 980. Never thought of 4 wheel drive. Thanks for the 4wd suggestion!
