2500 to 3500 questions

For the most part yes, and it’s even legal in many states.

Identical is the wrong word thou. The frame design/technology is the same but they are different. You cannot use a 2500 frame on a 3500, which is what identical would mean.

You can use a 3500 SRW frame on a DRW, those are identical.

not really i use my truck for truck stuff. if i wanted to haul people around i would get something else. Mega cab turns your bed into a shopping car and is no use for me. i dont need a queen size bed in the back for passengers to go to the mall.
I hear ya. Too bad they don't offer a Mega LB truck. For guys that use trucks for hot shotting, RV transport, etc. and sleep in the back seat, the bigger the back seat the better. If Ram offered one, I'd have one.

I would own a 1500 or a 3500 doesnt make sense to own a 2500 anymore.
Maybe to you they don't. To a lot of use, they do. I looked hard at 3500's when I ordered out my 2500 last year. I was already driving an 18 Ram 2500, but thought about future proofing and going bigger. Cost difference was negligible. After test driving a couple 3500's, I decided to stay with the 2500. Suspension harshness was much more noticeable in the 3500's (air suspended or not) compared to my air suspended 2500, and I just don't need the extra capacity. 2500 is the perfect truck for me.

Megacab is awesome too. Long trips with the boys to go dirt biking in the Rockies or fishing up north are much more comfortable with the extra leg room and reclining rear seats. Great for the 5 dogs when folded flat too. I would not own a Ram without them, personally.

If They made a long bed mega cab that would make a whole lot more sense to me. The mega cab is already 9in shorter wheel base than the CC long bed why would they keep it short? ive had my goose neck trailer in some pretty tight spots and i am glad i didnt have a short bed, i would of never made it out.

Ive never had anyone complain about my back seats in my CC. Ive rode in plenty of 2500s and there isn't not much ride difference to off set truck capability's. the activities you just explained to me a 1500 would preform just as good with better ride comfort. Each to their own i bought a truck to be a truck.

I think the mega-cabs made a lot more sense on the 3rd gen trucks which had a cramped back seat area. In my opinion, I think the back seat area on the 4th gen and newer crew cabs about the perfect size

To try and add something useful for the OP - I think you'll find ride harshness a very subjective thing. People like myself enjoy having their molars rattled loose. Others, like my father in law, probably thinks a Camry rides like a dump truck.
