From what I’ve seen on the 26 half tons, I’m thinking the clothe inserts are here to stay for 26 across the board

I drove one the other day and it had the cloth inserts. I don't particularly like them either. Harder to treat the leather and not get it on the fabric and discolor it. Looks like we are stuck with it for awhile. A different color leather would have been better IMO. But they do look nice! Durability only time will tell.
