Does anyone know what ambient temps the active grill shutters close on cold starts? had a few cold starts at 40F and the grills shifted to wide open. my '19 would keep them closed on cold starts anywhere in the 40's.

Not sure if I have a problem or the grills are designed to open up right way unless the truck is in much colder temps?

The active shutters primary isn’t for engine warm up, it’s for aerodynamics. You will obviously get some warm up benefits when they are closed, but I wouldn’t expect much out of them. I never noticed any cold temp improvement on my 22 over my 18.

Temps fell into the low 30s last night. Active grill shutters closed immediately upon start up and continuously closed through out the day on multiple start ups and as the engine temps fell below 187 F.

these shutters shut off air flow to most of the radiator. I understand it has some aero benefits, but its ability to keep the engine warm in cold climates seems very obvious. I guess they adjusted the ambient outdoor temp the shutters close on the 25+.

Yes there will be some benefit to ECT, but they are not a substitute for a winter front.

you might be right, I just dont understand why. The shutters covers the same section of radiator as a winter front. Unless im wrong about htat at the winter front covers more?

The winter front will block more airflow, and always block it.

The shutters truly are programmed around aerodynamics.

I have yet to install the winter front on my ‘21. I do not drive it much in the winter unless roads are dry, but my thinking on it is that the thermostat and shutters do their job and no real need for the cover. If I was in Canada, or the interior of Alaska, it would be a different story. My 01, that sucker needs a cover.

The biggest difference in the 01 and 21 is the EGR, not the shutters. The EGR does a lot for warmup time and underhood heat.
