Has anybody else seen this payload/towing chart and can you explain how one obtains the new for 2025 11,040 GVWR on the 2500?
"* Applies to vehicles produced with sales code Z2K/Z7G/Z3Y"
but I can't figure out what those sales codes mean and when I build I can't see anything that looks like it would effect this. This is HUGE for the fifth wheel guys that want to keep the nice riding 2500 suspension but are concerned about payload for a fifth wheel! I'm just curious what this option actually is and how you get it. This boosts diesel payload 850 pounds over the next lower GVWR!

I was just about to ask the same question. I’ve been trying to figure out what Z7G means and can’t.

The updated towing guide lists Z7G as the only way to get the 11,040 GVWR.

FAWR/RAWR/GCWR are unchanged over 10K GVWR trucks.

Do 2500s ride that much better than a SRW 3500? Reading on here, one of the main reason a 2500 exists is to stay below the 10,001 GVWR so you dont have to have a DOT number.

The payload and tow ratings look the same as 2024 except for a Regular cab DRW diesel. It gained over 2000 of capacity.

Here is a Laramie Mega Cab diesel that appears to have the 11,040 GVWR and the only option on the window sticker is 24H Laramie Level 2:

Chevy definitely has used the same spring pack in their 2500 and 3500 and in that case the ratings tend to just be a numbers game as you say. But Ram uses a COMPLETELY different rear suspension setup in the 2500 vs the 3500. The 3500 uses traditional leaf springs and the 2500 uses a 5 link coil suspension which allows for a much more comfortable ride (so I hear). But if you look at the 2025 2500 chart closely you have see only a few have a 11,040 GVWR, much higher than the other 3 available GVWRs which allows for 850 pounds more payload than the next lower GVWR. Basically the difference between 2,000 pounds diesel payload and 3,000 pounds diesel payload. A game changer for many looking to pull a fifth wheel camper. If we can find out what the real difference is we will know more about wether it's just a number or what hard parts are different.

There are also more frame differences than most would like to believe.

Our rolling GVW with camper is 11k. The better ride unloaded while being "compliant" when loaded would be interesting. ~11k gvwr on a diesel megacab 2500 would be interesting and silence the payload police.

With the axle ratings being the same I doubt there are many differences. I was wondering if maybe it’s a poll for Ram to see how popular a higher GVWR 2500 is.

Payload isn’t a real limit to most users anyways, but this is good to see.

Just looked at the build sheet of the one I have ordered .

I didn’t ask for it or anything but it just comes that way starting a couple weeks ago it seems based on some peoples reports of trucks they took possession of.
Congrats sir! I checked the GVWR on like 10 new rams coming to dealers near me and none of them had the higher rating

Just goes to show how the “payload” registration weight is just that since they are changing wight ratings without changing axle ratings.

Not only is the ride more comfortable, they wheel the trails a bit better also. Which a higher payload rating, it can be the ultimate do it all HD Diesel truck.

Could it be the HO?
No since the SO has up to 23k towing with a 3500 so its clearly not a limiting factor, it is the registration reasons why it was set at 10k now its just speculation why we see the bump but its likely due to demands id guess

I'd assume the payload limit is based on the weakest component?

The axle may not have been what kept the previous year models at a lower GVWR.
Registration is what kept it at that GVWR they never changed any components that would make any sense to the increase. Believe me if they did they would flaunt it with marketing.

What about HO and 2500 coil spring rear suspension? The SO 3500 still had leafs in the rear.

The HO has never been combined with the 2500 coil springs until 2025.

Nothing changed for RAWR or GCWR.

Likely nothing changed other than the sticker. GVWR has been reduced to meet vehicle classification and emissions requirements for years across all HD models.

After going back and forth with this so many times, I think I’ll stick with the 3500 Mega Cab SRW w/ factor air. Think this will hit all the boxes for me. I was recently told the longer wheel base of the Mega Cab will add some towing stability. I did not think about this before.

I’ve been trying very hard to make an informed purchase.
