Hey guys, idk if I’m tripping or what but my truck is brand new, 433 miles on it as of now. I noticed it has some slight like “chirp” or almost a “tick” noise? I know these motors have hydraulic lifter and they are prone to going bad but is this what I’m hearing?? Or am I trippin. See video below. You can hear it faintly but it is there. I feel like I’m tripping lol. It’s more of that chirp chirp chirp noise I’m talking about. Not sure though lol

Yours sounds perfectly normal to me.

edit:
Compare yours to these 2 that have a very pronounced ticking (you can hear them OVER the normal engine noises)

Oh okay, thanks for the videos I was trying to find some of a lifter problem! Yeah I was just curious as to what that little chirp noise kinda was? My buddy’s 19 does it aswell. Must be normal then. Is the lifter problem more noticeable at a higher rpm I take it?

There are multiple threads on the issue and it seems to come and go. It happened to me as well and only first noticed it when I was outside the truck and at idle I could hear a tapping (some call it a typewriter tap) noise. It wouldnt be there all the time at first. Then I saw a couple videos (like the one i posted) of the sound happening when revving the engine a bit. I parked next to a wall and rolled the window down and could hear it easily.

I got rid of the hydraulic lifters and have been very happy I did so.

That sound is likely the injectors you are hearing thinking its lifters.

Yeah I was thinking either the injector or the pump. I just wasn’t sure, I had a 2020 Cummins before and I don’t remember how it sounded cause I only owned it for 2 years and never had a problem with it that I knew of. Aslong as it’s not lifters then cool, I just want to know what to look out for. Do people hear the lifters going bad from inside the cab while driving to? I know sometimes you can hear it from inside on like per se valves tapping.

How much did it cost to do the conversion?

Yeah that makes sense for sure, I can just hear it kinda go “chirp chirp chirp” then it’ll stop then kinda come back. Seems like I hear it on passenger side/ front of grill if I really listen for it.

I’m having the same problem on my 2024 started making the noise at 500 miles. Dealer told me to run it longer before they can do anything to it. Definitely coming from passenger side of the engine.

‘24 2500 Cummins here. I just started hearing it from the passenger side too.
But it’s only on cold startup idle, high idle, or when driving around town at low rpm but not off throttle cruise or idling. You only hear it with the windows down but it’s definitely there.

So mine went pretty silent around 700 miles. I haven’t really heard it since my first regen. Give it some time. It will more than likely go away if it’s the same thing I had?

I’m at 2k miles now and had the first regen, and the tick is still going strong. I’m going make the dealer look into it when I get my first oil change. Performance wise nothing is wrong yet.

How loud is the tick? Mine was heard really good infront of the grill… I figured tensioner pulley was what was going on and maybe it broke in or something idk. I feel like a lot of **** is “unexplained” now a days.

Hmm send me a video of what you’re hearing! And definitely let me know what they say?

So I had this noise on my 2023 Ho after the first deal oil change. Dealer did a second oil change and no difference.

After 3 trips to the dealer they had a field engineer look at I and I was told it was normal. It would only happen on cold starts. once it was warmed up it went away.

I am not sure what happened with it because the truck was traded shorty after.

Damn that’s insane, that sounds like the hydraulic lifter issue to me almost… yeah what I’m describing isn’t that. My biggest pet peeve with these 2500s is the annoying clunk noise the transmission likes to make in stop and go traffic if you aren’t super careful with the throttle. It’s rather annoying. But now I just turn my music up a little louder and disregard it. Dealer told me it was normal and I test drove 4 other trucks and they all did the same ****.

Why that sound is almost like the noise I head the other night coming from a Chevy Colorado with baby Duramax, only different is it was not as loud or as fast of a tick
