2024 6.7 cranks for 15 seconds before starting

Last week I purchased a 2024 Ram 2500 with the Cummins sight unseen, with the exception of some pictures. It only has 10,000 miles on it so I figured there couldn't be too much wrong with it. It was delivered today by a third party and it is everything I expected it to be and looks like new. When I first started it, it idled very rough and even stalled a few times. It then idled at 1,000 RPM for a while. I then took it on a short drive and it ran fine. When I returned home it idled perfectly at about 700 RPM BUT when I turn it off and restart it, it cranks for about 15 seconds before starting. It then idles fine. I'm waiting to hear back from a dealer tech. What is the potential issue?

I would suspect a aftermarket fuel filter or even a counterfeit mopar fuel filter. Order a kit from genos garage or klm performance if you don’t have a dealership nearby. And if you do go to the dealer don’t let them sell you the bpro auto filters. The aftermarket filters have been known to cause loss of fuel system prime/extended crank times.

Very good chance. I looked at the filter assemblies and everything looks way to clean to have been changed.......or maybe hasn't been changed at all

Followup...I changed the filters this evening. The rear filter (water separator) was definitely dirty. The fuel filter on the engine looked good decent but I change it anyways. Here's the scary part. It was late and I was tired but I kept thinking it smelled like there was gasoline in the diesel fuel. I'm hoping I'm paranoid but I did get a 12v pump out and some hose and stuck it in the tank as best I could and to my knowledge I pumped out 30-35 or so gallons out. I then put in about 8 gallons of fresh diesel and the pickup started after cycling the start button a few times. It runs fine and sounds find. I drove it a mile and it feels fine as well. But it still cranks for about 6-8 seconds every time I start it.

Where did you get the replacement filters from?

Update #2.....The filters I used were genuine Cummins filters from the local parts shop. I have no reason to question them.

This morning I put a long drain hose on the fuel filter base and jumpered the fuel pump relay and was able to pump the tank entire empty. After that I put a few gallons of fresh fuel in and it started after about 8 seconds. It now starts after only 2-3 cranks......just like my 2022 pickup.

I am. I'm not overly concerned about damage. I suspect that the dealer's employee who prepared the truck for shipping/final delivery put gasoline in it before loading it on the truck for shipping. I drove it today several times on short trips and it runs and idles perfectly fine.

My 2022 takes 2-3 seconds longer to start then my 06 5.9 did, but then its been that way from the day I picked it up with 17 miles on it, I also never wait for the grid heater to cycle, I just double tap the start button..
