2023 Trailer Towing Cameras & Surround Cameras - Available or Not? And how to order a config that will work...

I just took delivery of my 2024 Ram 3500 SRW Diesel. When I ordered it, I got both the tow technology and the tow technology plus packages which included the trailer surround cameras. Stupidly I did not order the separate wired tow mode camera because at the time I thought it was included with those packages. When I picked up my truck, the dealer said I could order it separately. He gave me a quote for $1,518 for part number 82216068AB. I told him I don’t think that is right and that all I need is a camera. He said I need that kit because the truck needs additional equipment and would need to be programmed. But I’m pretty sure that isn’t correct as the truck already has the plugin on the left side of the rear bumper. I’m thinking what I need is part number 68586112AA based on these forums. Can someone confirm this is correct? I did find it available online for $566. I just want to make sure that is what I need and that it will work before I order it.

If you have a digital rear view mirror and you have the plug to the left of the rear lic plate you only need 68586112AA.

Where are you located

Yes, I have both. I knew the dealer didn’t know what they were talking about when they tried to sell me a $1500 item. I tried to tell them I only need the camera but they wouldn’t listen to me and tried to tell me the truck needed stuff too. Fine, I’ll get it from another source. Even $600 seems pricey but it sure will be nice to see behind me while pulling and not have another monitor on the dash like the aftermarket stuff.

As the person that started this thread originally, I thought I'd keep it going with the latest problem. As stated when starting the thread, I ordered a fully loaded 2023 Limited 3500 with all the options, Tow Surround and DRVM, etc... but as we all know throughout the thread, the actual wired tow mode camera became unavailable for ages so I got a truck with the wiring but no camera. The truck came with both the trailer surround (12 pin) input and the Digital Coax input in the rear bumper with all the packages I ordered.

@Jimmy07 was helpful getting my Trailer Surround Camera system working as I had to order control modules and get into the system to program it to enable it. All good there.

Based on recent posts above from @Grey65 and @ATCavi8or - it seemed that the wired tow mode camera is finally available as part # 68586112AA and various Mopar sites now have it and show that it works for 2023 Ram 3500's.

I ordered two, one for a boat and one for a trailer. Neither are working. The moment I plug either into the Coax receptacle at the top left in bumper, the DRVM SEEMS to see something happening, as it immediately starts alternating between a gray camera icon and a yellow camera icon with a line through it, as if some sort of error is happening, and it won't show the camera feed from the camera.

I can't possibly have two bad cameras. Hoping @Jimmy07 - the genius on these things, can shed some light?

- is 68586112AA compatible or not?
- is there some additional software programming I have to do, like I did with the trailer surround?
- I can't think there is a loose connection somewhere or it wouldn't see the camera at all when I'm plugging it in?

Thoughts?

Thank you!

Interesting.

I own a 2023 2500 and looked for the camera for a long time. 68586112AA is the correct part I needed for my truck.

The only thing I can think is maybe you reversed the plugs on the signal booster or something? You should not need any additional programming to make the camera work. Once I installed everything in the trailer I was able to just plug it into the left side of the truck and boom. DRVM shows behind the trailer now.

Are you using the correct 2 wires and signal booster?

I’m not quite sure what you mean by “2 wires and a signal booster.”

This part # comes with a long cable labeled DRVM, a coaxial plug on one that plugs into the coaxial plug on the back of the truck, a little round plug that plugs (only one way) into the camera on the other end. And that’s it. No “2 wires” and no signal booster. There is nothing on this kit to reverse or even screw up if I wanted to. My understand is it’s plug and play.

Your 68586112AAkit had more than I’m describing? I ordered 2 of that exact part # and neither had anything but cable and camera and zip ties.

You can see the two plug booster in one of the pics as well. 2 fakra connectors on it, one on each end.

For those that are interested, a Trailer Tow Camera Kit p/n 68586112AA just popped up on eBay for $550:

Thank you @M-Pressive and @Radiometer1 ... it seems maybe I have the wrong kit, even though it says it works on 2022-2023, I see other docs from RAM that say 2022 kits don't work on 2023 kits and vice versa. I did order the 68586112AA, but I only have one cable and one camera, no 'booster'. Hoping @Jimmy07 is going to chime in because he always has the answers! And maybe @Jimmy07 you can look at my photos of what's happening in the rear view mirror?

@M-Pressive if you could send photos of the manual that would help, thanks!

@masterbeat The kit you have is not compatible with your truck. It has to have the signal repeater in between the two cables. It sounds like you have a kit from the earlier models, maybe someone sold you them under the wrong part number.

The instructions are attached here. You can see the parts list contains more then one cord and the repeater/booster. The last page talks about those connections I mentioned in my first response as well.

I searched high and low for my kit, set up an alert on eBay and bought the first one it alerted me on. I had only seen 5 total cameras listed during my search. I saw others that claimed they were correct but had read that if the kit had one cable it was older and not compatible.

As previously mentioned, the 2023+ camera system (68586112AA) should consist of two cables and a repeater. If you just have a single cable that goes from the bumper to the camera, you either have the wrong (or an incomplete) camera system. (I have tested before, and even the correct camera will not work without the repeater inline)

And for comparison, the incompatible 2022 camera system (6852799AA) only has a single cable.

Here is a breakdown of the individual parts used in the two different kits. If you really want to look into this, you can open your camera housing and check to see if the P.N. of the camera inside matches either of these.

68586112AA should be the correct part number for 2023 and 2024. It worked on my 2023 by simply plugging it in. No additional hardware nor programming was needed.

I have seen instances of connectors not fully connected between the DRVM controller under the driver's seat and the rear bumper. In these cases, the camera obviously didn't work and the truck didn't show any signs of recognizing that the camera was plugged in.

Thank you for the answers, I think they sent me the 2022 kit and not the 2023... returning and now trying to find the ever elusive 68586112AA!

Hello, I know this originally started as an older question, but since there are folks experienced here like @masterbeat, do you know if the 360 trailer surround system will work with only the rear camera connected? I am completely willing to sacrifice the top-down and the front/left/right camera views, if I can get the beautiful full screen rear backup view. I already have the tow-mode (DRVM) camera on the back of my trailer but it cannot provide both a ground view and an outward rear-view-mirror driving view. It just doesn't have enough vertical field of vision. The 360 camera system I have gives me the rear ground view, but the system is too cumbersome with the control box and wires to permanently install on my trailer. (my XN1 option camera system is just sitting new in box since I took delivery last May'24)

I believe I can keep the control module in my locking battery box on the tongue and reach the trailer rear with the 12 meter cable. Before I do all the unboxing I just would like to know if this is futile or worth a shot. Also, I am assuming I do not need my trailer connected on the 7-pin just to test the feature but that would also be good to know because I have to give 24hr notice to get my trailer out of storage. It is hard to tell from these instructions if the 4 cameras are required, or if trailer connection is required: https://vehicleinfo.mopar.com/asset...UID-ECE86B07-1E9B-4E15-8B7C-2DB388441636.html

Thanks in advance!
