2023 Tow Mirrors to 2022 Non Tow Power Folding Mirrors

So I bought a 2023 Big Horn in early November out of state. I bought and paid for the truck without actually seeing it and was too busy to worry about picking it up and finally had one of my friends (and professional driver employee) pick up the truck. I finally saw it and drove it last Monday, the 18th. I was planning to drive the truck on a 1500 mile truck last Friday. I hate the mirrors so much, that I moved all my stuff back into my 2015 Ram CC Hemi Express 4x4 with 170k miles on it and set off on my trip.

I see all of the comments about the people that are disappointed with the 2022 and earlier Passenger Side Tow Mirrors that I am not really sure I want to roll the dice on buying a set of Power Folding Tow Mirrors and then end up with the same issue I am having with the 2023 mirrors.

My Truck currently has (from the window sticker);
Power Heat/Fold/Telescoping Mirrors
Power Telescoping Mirrors
Automatic Power-Folding Mirrors
Forward and Reverse Lights

From doing some research on the 2022 Ram 2500/3500 the standard mirror for the CC is a 6x9 Power Black Mirror non folding ( may be the same mirror on my 2015 1500 Express that I really like), the Ram Brochure lists the sales code for this mirror as GT6. Looking at the 2023 Ram 1500 Classic Brochure, the standard mirror for the CC is also a 6x9 Power Black Mirror non folding With the same GT6 sales code. With this information, it makes me believe that I should be able to use a mirror designed for a 2023 Ram 1500 Classic on my 2023 Ram 2500. If this is correct, the Ram 2023 Ram 1500 Classic Brochure list an optional 6x9 Heated, Auto Dimming, Power Folding Mirror with Courtesy Lamps and Supplemental Turn Signals. The sales code for this mirror is GUK.

Does this seem reasonable, that I can get the mirrors for a 2023 Ram 1500 (loaded model such as Warlock) and get the mirrors that I am used to? I appreciate everyone’s help and support with this project.

Thanks,
Dan

From what I understand the mounting surface is different, and why it’s not a simple swap to add 23+ mirrors to a 22- .

Yes, the ‘23 mirrors do have an extra 2 bolts on the bottom of the mirrors. I would have to figure out a way to cover the bottom holes that would not be used.

First person I've ever heard say they don't like the 23 mirrors.

The doors are new for the 23 HD's to accommodate the larger base and 2 additional bolts on the 23 tow mirrors. There's currently no aftermarket adapters or mirrors that I'm aware of. You'd have to change the doors, and then the electronics are not going to work. The aftermarket will be working on bringing the 23 mirror setup/style to older vehicles and I doubt you'll ever see a backwards design offered by anyone.

The 23 classic looks to have the same (old) doors and doesn't have the step down cutout for the new mirrors that you'll see on the HD trucks.

There's several things I've learned about change throughout my life.

1. Change is inevitable
2. Most are resistant to change
3. Most come around if they give change a chance
4. Those that are often the most vocal are frequently the most supportive after some time

Interested to know why the hate for the mirrors. I have driven with some awful mirrors and even some without mirrors never been enough for me not to drive a vehicle.

Following.... I too want to know what is so bad about the new mirrors that you won't even drive your truck.

I personally don’t love the look of the new mirrors but they’re leaps and bounds better for seeing around the truck than the old style. The only time the old design works as nearly good is when they’re up for towing purposes, otherwise they leave a lot to be desired for blind spots. I’ve owned three 4.5 gen’s, one 4th gen and three Trx’s, none of them compare to my current 23 Power Wagon mirrors. One of my trucks didn’t have blind spot monitoring, which I really don’t love all these driver assistance stuff, but without it and mirrors down it was not fun driving in south Florida traffic.

I have a HUGE blind spot when looking out the larder of the two mirrors. The blind spot is about the size of a Full Size car. For me to drive it, I have to look only at the lower mirror, which to me is a bit small (The mirrors that do not have power convex or the lights have a larger, manual convex mirror). I think because the top mirror is flat glass, I am having the same issue that the guys with the previous Tow Mirrors are complaining about and replacing with the Suma mirror.

I do have the parts to add the BSM and am planning to install the LED on the sail panel. If nothing else that will help. I may also look into some of the replacement glass sold in the Auto Part Stores To see if any convex glass replacements might fit.

@84Daytona if you have power mirrors you should have power convex too. There is a button with a mirror on it that swaps the controls to the convex mirrors.

Haven’t looked at the 23 mirrors but if Suma hadn’t come through with their awesome glass for mine I had planned on removing the convex and making a cardboard template of the entire housing..then paying a glazier to cut a piece of mirror. No doubt it would have been a lot cheaper than the Suma..
Figured a bigger piece of flat glass adhered to the existing flat glass would be better than nothing. It’s the goofily shaped and placed convex that makes mine so bad, IMO.

That’s really odd, not saying that it’s not accurate for you but I find there’s less of a blind spot on the new mirrors. Do your mirrors telescope out? The smaller lower mirror does adjust.

I find for the best view is to have the top mirror adjusted so rear flare in the bottom inside corner so I can’t see the much of the top of the tire and the taillight is barely in sight as well.

Honestly, I think a lot of it has to do with "muscle memory," you'll get used to it if you set the mirrors up correctly.

I drive a different vehicle almost weekly, so I guess I just retrain my brain each time. BSM does help.

A lot of people have been taught incorrectly how to aim their mirrors (not saying this is the OP’s problem necessarily). Most mirror view issues can be fixed by proper aiming.

I have a 2024 5500 with the new mirrors. I think that the new ones look nice, but I would rather have my old 2015 moose mirrors for towing.

Extend the mirrors out and they’re in the same position as the old ones but bigger.

Actually I love my new mirrors I just swap 23 mirrors in my 2022 I barely have to adjust it when extended .

Did you put new doors on? Or aftermarket mirrors for the older mount?
