With the '22 trailer view camera there were some complaints about the cable not being long enough. So for the '23 they increased the length of the tow mode camera cable from 57 to 73 feet. To compensate for the longer cable, they switched cameras and added an inline repeater. The '23 cameras are in extremely short supply. The majority of trucks that were ordered with one, eventually had the camera removed from their order. And I have yet to find one available for purchase on it's own.
On the '22, both the CHMSL camera and the tow mode camera ran to the DRVM (Digital Rear View Mirror). The DRVM is responsible for switching between the camera views. From what I've read here, for the '23 they added a video processor module under the driver seat. These cameras now run to this module and it is responsible for switching between the camera views. (This includes the side view cameras if you have the DRVM 3.0 system)
From what we've seen of the '23 so far, any truck equipped with the DRVM should have a plug on the bumper for the tow mode camera system. This means that you should be able to add a camera system later once their availability improves. But, as far as I know, nobody has tried a '22 camera with a '23 yet. It might work. But given the differences in both the truck and the camera system, don't be surprised if it doesn't.
-All the above applies only to trailer camera systems intended for use with the DRVM. There are other trailer camera systems designed to show on the in dash screen. These will plug into a separate 12-pin connector on the bumper. AFAIK there haven't been any changes here between the '22 and '23, so I would expect these to be interoperable.-
