So what is a good one?

There are literally hundreds of coatings to choose from. Everything from the basic coating you apply at home or spending thousands on having a professional correct the paint and apply a top tier ceramic coating. The thing is all ceramic coatings will fail eventually, so keep that in mind as you are deciding on which route to go.

I personally like to keep my cars clean but I am not out to have a show car with perfect paint. I have a basic orbital polisher with a few different grades of polish to choose from. As for coatings I have tried the Meguiars Paint Coating kit with good luck. This is a very entry level coating and you can pick it up for under 50 bucks. This will not last for 3 years as some coatings will but according to Meguiars they state it will last over a year. After 6 months the water is still beading great and the coating is holding up fine but I did apply a layer of Meguiars liquid ceramic wax after 6 months, again very cheap stuff but it works. Also, between washings I use their hybrid ceramic detailer spray. By doing all of these things I have no doubt the coating will last a year and after that I will add another hybrid paint coating.

If you do not like to detail your cars at all then paying a professional might be the way to go, although extremely expensive. If you do not mind spending a little bit of time cleaning your car then purchase one of the basic coating kits and do it once every 12-18 months. All in all I have under 100 bucks invested into my paint and to 90% of the people it looks just as good as someone who paid thousands to have theirs done.
