2022 Ram HD Builds and orders - Post and discuss your TRUCK order here! ** NEW USERS READ POST #1 **

Paying MSRP on a vehicle is a personal choice. A dealer advertising over MSRP is gouging and it’s your choice to defend that behavior.
A dealer can charge whatever they want for a vehicle. MSRP is just a suggestion. I’m not sure where you’re at, but I live in a free market economy, and it would be financially foolish for a dealership to not try to get as much money as a consumer is willing to spend. Are people buying TRXs for 40k over msrp being “gouged”?

If they are willing to pay it, that's on the consumer. Supply and demand. No way was I going to pay over MSRP, which is why I ordered mine. Just about every lot I've been on has had vehicles marked up due to "Market Adjusted Price" Some dealers are going overboard with that, but that gives them a starting point for negotiations. Reading through the financials from Stallantis 1st and 2nd quarter they are averaging about 10-15% gross on every new vehicle.

At the risk of going too far off topic… I think that’s well and good. Except expect backlash from people. Which is what is happening here. Dealers are allowed to charge over MSRP. People are allowed to bash that and complain all they want. That’s still allowed in a free market economy.

@Jimmy07:

How did you get that 9th digit. I thought it was random. Mine is a 3 for this truck and my last one was a 9. I thought they would be the same...
There’s a lot of math involved, and you can get the formula on body builder guide, but if you know the rest of the vin, you can use an online 9th digit calculator.

Yup, it all depends how bad you want something right now that’s in high demand, or order for cheaper, and wait. There’s nothing wrong with charging an obscene amount for something in high demand and let it ride, because someone will always come along and buy it. Anyone that doesn’t like it can just move along to the next dealer that might be selling it cheaper.

MSRP is just the SUGGESTED price. literally. Manufacture Suggested Retail Price. Dealers can go Lower or Higher than MSRP. Not price gouging at all. Dealers now have less inventory than ever, so theyre making way less due to reduced volume. So in order for dealers to still meet their bills they have to make more on each car they sell. Hence why no one is going less than MSRP and high demand cars are going higher than MSRP. Alot of dealers have cut off any employee pricing right now too. Its' a crazy market right now. Be nice to get back to when we have 200 cars/trucks on the lot and we can deal more because we have the inventory and can sell volume. Im a service manager at a dealership. We normally would have 1-2 trucks that we have customized with lift, wheels, leather, etc. But with no inventory we dont, and the trucks we have come in are often sold before they even hit the lot.

That's false. Dealerships made more the first two quarters of this year than they ever have; with less volume.

And America isn't a true free market economy; if that were the case dealerships wouldn't need lobbies to protect their existence and just about nothing would be produced here. Giving tax breaks to encourage businesses to produce somewhere isn't letting the market be free....

Price gouging? On a vehicle? Are you being serious? I would call it the basic laws of economics.
How about this one for 8K over the MSRP 2021 Ram 3500 built on June 22d. They had a couple of others that the price was 8 to 10K over MSRP. They must have sold them I just hope no one paid those kind of prices. Some dealers were doing the same thing with the TRX when they first came out.

This is true. I believe there should be no government intervention, which means no laws against price gouging. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with price gouging, especially in disaster situations. It would prevent supply depletion due to panic buying.

I say good for them. They probably got the price they were looking for, and the people that bought them now have the trucks that they wanted.

Hunter dodge salesman keeps texting, lol. Says we are all getting cat fished with the out of state dealers. Now he’s trying to say what they are doing “selling trucks without them on the lot” is against some franchise agreement. There’s no level they won’t stoop to. Specifically they “can’t contract a deal until unit has hit the lot”

Gouged.... If the consumer is willing to pay a crazy price then shame on them for feeding the EGO of the dealership. You describe the definition of price gouging "an act or instance of charging customers too high a price for goods or services, especially when demand is high and supplies are limited:"

I am only glad I do not work with my truck and need one at this point, talk about a hit to the bottom line...

Does anyone on this thread know if RAM will be releasing a bead lock ring kit to replace the beauty ring for the "bead lock capable" power wagon wheels? I've seen photos of the rings online but haven't been able to find any info on them.

I will check with parts and see if anything is available yet on this.
That would be awesome! Hopefully your parts department is more knowledgeable than the ones I've spoken with. Everyone I've talked to here says that you should be able to use the ring that comes on it. There wouldn't be enough clamping force given the space between the bolts supplied and the lack of every 3rd hole being drilled into the ring. when you pull the ring off there is the correct amount of holes in the wheel, but not on the beauty ring.

I know how unreliable RamChat is but I finally got a different answer about my build and everyone else's ( Taking it as a grain of salt lol). They told me today that most trucks in "D" status are usually only in "D" for 30-35 days as a estimate. I know that is a different story for most of us on here. They also told me, " There is no doubt that your ram will be sequenced to begin building as of next week sometime." That was straight from RamChat as i'm still in "D" status. Like I said, I know RamChat is super unreliable but that's my only way to figure out where my truck is due to my dealer never responding to me lol

I found out if you call them you can find out more information than the chat

We need a thread that calls out all of the rip off dealers, plenty here in AZ that would be on that list
Agreed. I reached out to many dealers in the Phoenix area for my 3500 Limited Megacab order and none of them would budge off of msrp. Finally came across @AndreaChapmanScottsdale on the forums and had a quote for under invoice hours after contacting her. Glad to see there are still dealers out there that want to do business.
